If you have been following my articles you have probably wondered why I have been writing about my second son and so far no articles about son number one, the music videos king.. Well, basically because he is always in the room asking me to. Both of us agree it is time to introduce his older brother to everyone, so I wrote this article to introduce you to my son Dr. Noise.
From quiet to loud.
When my son was young he was probably one of the quietest kids I had ever been around. He always had a look in his eye that told you he was just a couple steps ahead of everything going on around him. Up until the day he walked into the room and asked for his first guitar, I had no idea he would take the path of solo ham and front man for the band Hang-Em-High. He was already at 17 an outstanding drummer, and I truly thought that would be his direction. Because I was on the road a whole lot when he was putting his first band together I missed all of their practice times. In returning from a tour through some of our wonderful southern states I walked into the house and was informed I was late to my sons first gig at the local high school, and I was to watch his latest music videos. My son had went from quiet to loud in a flash.
How loud was he?
A jack hammer would not have stood a chance of being heard over these guys, but they were good and I knew he was as hooked in the business as I was just by watching him perform. I could not help but wonder again, where did he get this style of musical influence?
What is Thrash Metal?
The most confusing, loud and head banging noise you will ever hear, at the volume of a 747 taking off down the runway. I had to ask myself where in the world did he get influenced by this? Well, boys will be boys and that's one of our great freedoms, the freedom to choose, and this was his choice and I would back it. First thing needed would be a set of ear plugs, something my I have managed to avoid so far in my career.Well, that was 13 years ago, and he has since tamed down a bit, as one can tell watching his You Tube music videos.
Well, the thrash part of the music did die down anyway and the end result is pretty cool. If you are interested in checking out Dr. Noise just Google him, or find him on Facebook and tell him his Dad sent ya. He will get a kick out of that.

How great that you have so much music in your house! Loved the article
You're lucky, Shawn--I have always played the piano every day, even before the kids were born. I tend to play classical and swing/blues/broadway stuff (search 'xperdunn' for a sampling) so I assumed my kids would be into heavy metal or at least soul/blues/rock. But it is a rule that whatever you show great love for, in front of the kids, is guaranteed to be boring to one's offspring. We bought them guitars, amps, you name it, and lessons--but neither of them has any interest in music, aside from my daughter's love of Kariochi. If only I'd known your secret!
Shawn, it might be extra noisy at times with a loud band in your home but your son and his band sure seem to be having a blast. i enjoyed some of the music videos and I wish them much success with their music. Glad to see you are so supportive of his music
Thank you Shawn, Having two sons myself, I am fortunate to be able to experience this for myself.
The best part of reading your article for me was relating to another proud parent. Lucky kids you have!
