The Hunt-for Vintage Instruments
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

As the saying goes. "One man’s junk is another man’s treasure". Never has a statement been so true. You can find just about anything a garage sales, yard sales and storage unit auctions. We will have a candid talk about the possibilities of finding a dream instrument, usually because someone has lost their love for it.

I look for just about anything in line of musical instruments that I could find. But this is not an easy catch as lots of people are on to the value of older instruments, thanks to the swarm of auction shows on television these days. With today’s economy the whole scope of parting with an item has changed drastically. The idea of parting with an item used to be as simple as "this old thing is in the way so just give me $ and you can have it". These days it is more like, this really old thing has been in the family for 100 years and I’d hate to part with it but I’m willing to let it go for $$$$$$$$".....See what I mean?

Don't let seller see your excitement. So when you do find something of interest be sure to control your outward expressions. Whatever you do, don't show your excitement because that could send an immediate alert to the seller. Remain calm and the seller will usually follow suit. Be honest, If you see something you really want, just tell em' you have one of those but would like get one for a relative or a friend. This shows that you are not trying to collect such item, which indicates a higher personal worth to you.

What to look for. There is no way that you can prepare yourself for what you might find......You just don't know what people have had tucked away in closets, crawl spaces and attic's. I've seen very old drums for sale, Old piano's and sometimes I run into an occasional collection of sheet music for the piano, Some items to look for would be an amp for guitar because you may find one that can be restored and resold for a hefty price. Guitars and bass instruments are always on the top of my list for search. Don’t be surprised if you find and old tuba...Lol

Look at it like this, as long as we purchase, we will eventually purge some of our possessions. So just be ready to investigate when you are driving through your neighborhood Friday and Saturday, These are the most popular days to hold a sale, obviously because people are more available to shop....I wish you a productive day of special purchases.
