As a big fan of Korean pop music, I cannot help but notice that one of my favorite groups is starting to make a breakthrough in the music industry. Girls’ Generation, a 9 member Kpop girl group has been dominating the Korean music markets for a couple of years. They are awesome, amazing, talented, and many more words I cannot use to describe them. However, can they be a bigger force than they are now? I will try to explain why they can in an unbiased manner as possible.
Music Style
What do I look for in music? I look for a nice tune, good beats, strong lyrics, and powerful vocals. While my requirements for music may be different than many other people, these are some of the basics that many people look for. Each and every member of Girls’ Generation brings these traits, and each song brings every quality. Coupled with their astonishing dancing abilities, it is no wonder they have achieved success as one of the top groups in Korea. Their unique music style and masterful abilities hold the key to attaining greater success.
Marketing
Music style and abilities are only one step to greater success. Marketing your brand and tapping into the social groups that are unknown to your brand is crucial. Having achieved success in Korea, Girls’ Generation has expanded their reach to the other Asian markets, including releasing a few original songs in Japan as well. In addition, they are making themselves known the U.S. after participating in a joint concert in New York. Youtube is also another effective marketing tool for the group with their videos garnering anywhere from 10 million to 59 million views! They are gaining fame fast overseas and attaining greater success is certainly within reach.
Availability
Another important factor is the availability of the music for the existing fans and new fans. While anyone can just listen to the music via Youtube, a lot of people want the hard copy of the CDs and MP3s for their CD and MP3 players. Their discography is available on almost every Asian international online retailer, including U.S. online retailers iTunes and Amazon. Availability is certainly not a problem in their case.
Physical Attractiveness
As human beings, we all like to look at attractive people. As a celebrity, it certainly does not hurt to be attractive. I think most people will agree that the members of Girls’ Generation are attractive. Others may argue this point, but their physical traits have been a factor in their increase in popularity. Let’s face it, having a good image sells. So as long as they look attractive, this shouldn’t hurt their chances.
So can Girls’ Generation become a bigger force in the music industry? The potential is there and they are taking some of the right steps to become known internationally. They have a unique music style, effective marketing tools, a product that is highly available, and the attractiveness that people look for. With their popularity on the rise, it may happen sooner than later.
