Advice On Choosing Computer Music Recording Software For The Beginner

Within the sound production software market, there are many choices you have. This article discusses the features to look for when choosing computer music recording software so that you can make an informed buying decision.

Firstly, you need to use software that has WAVs as its file format. The minimum to go for is 16 bit, 44.1 kHz which is the standard that compact disc uses. The reason being is that, if you use anything less, the quality of the audio will not be up to scratch. Never use sound production software that uses MP3 because the audio quality is severely degraded as high and low end frequencies are thrown out. This means your music is not full and powerful which, if you are making dance music, the sound is weak, especially the bass.

The software you use must be more than a 1 bar looper because you will get bored really quickly and your listeners will be bored quickly just having 1 bar looping over and over. Look for software that allows you at least 32 bars.

Look for software that has at least 16 tracks as this allows you to layer sounds and have more varied instrumentation in your music so making it more interesting and varied.

If you are just learning to produce your own music, you do not want to be frustrated by a difficult software program as you will probably give up. Look for a program that has tutorials, preferably in video format as watching someone else do it greatly increases your ability to learn. You also want an easy to use, and understand, interface so that you can see what you are doing at all times.

You want software that you can edit easily and record onto. This means that you can change aspects of your song easily that aren't working and record or add samples in order to give your music uniqueness and fulfill your creativity.

The ability to save your creations so that you can put them onto CD is important as there is no point making great music if you can't show people!

In this current economic climate, price is very important, especially when just starting out. You do not want to spend hundreds on beat creator software if you find that you actually don't enjoy it.

Having quick and informed support is extremely important when things don't go the way you want. You do not want to have your creativity halted due to the software support team not getting back to you within a week! Imagine how annoying that would be! With really well known and difficult to use software this happens as loads of beginners contact the support team and they can take up to a week to reply - sometimes longer!

These are, in my opinion, the main features a beginner should look for when deciding on a program to make beats with.
