I remember when I first started learning guitar. The guitar was almost as big as I was! You’ve probably heard discouraging things about learning an instrument as an adult but take heart; you can definitely learn to play guitar at any age. As an adult learner you have a lot of advantages and if you are really determined to learn the guitar, you will do well.

One of the first things you need to do is decide how you are going to go about learning. Are you going to hire a teacher for weekly, fortnightly or monthly lessons? Are you going to teach yourself, using an online course or a book? Or, a combination of both of these? The more things you do to help you to learn guitar, the better off you will be.

This article is going to concentrate on beginning guitar lessons online. It is possible to do this, without costing anything, though you may like to start with free lessons and then move on to paid lessons as they usually offer better progression. It is also easier to understand where you are up to and what’s next when you follow a course structure.

The first thing to do is to choose a course that you will be studying. There are a lot of courses online and it is possible to find beginning guitar lessons online, free of charge. When you are selecting a course, you will find that many paid courses will offer you a free trial. Sign up for these wherever you can and study everything they offer.

If you have signed up for more than one free trial from different programs you may find that you begin to prefer one or the other due to the style of the lessons. This is an excellent guide for what you might find should you take the plunge and purchase the full course that they have offered. The most compelling reason to buy into a course is that your progression will be logically mapped out and you will move from lesson to lesson increasing your skills gradually.

If you are determined to learn guitar using only free methods, it can be done, however you will need to put time and effort into choosing your lessons. Youtube is a great place to find guitar lessons by some really good guitar teachers, the only difficulty you may have is finding a clear progression to the next level of guitar playing.
