If you are looking at cheap acoustic guitars for beginners then it is important to know that there are basically two types of acoustic guitars, one is a classical nylon string guitar and the other is a steel string guitar. Now many guitar players that don't play classical guitar really prefer the sound of the steel string guitar, myself included. I would recommend, though, a classical nylon string guitar for a beginner.
A nylon stringed, cheap acoustic guitars for beginners is the best sort, mainly because it does take the fingers some time to get used to the 'cutting into' sensation and nylon strings are far kinder than the steel strings. I've even heard of the rare occasion where the steel strings have even cut the fingers and drawn blood. I also believe that a classical guitar is better for a beginner because it is slightly wider than its steel string counterpart, making accuracy a little easier.
While I am a qualified and experienced music teacher, different teachers have differing preferences, so if you have secured the services of a guitar teacher, then it is important to ask them what are the best cheap, acoustic guitars for beginners are.
If the guitar is for a child, then it is possible to get an instrument that is not full size. These are quite easily attainable. I personally think that if you are going to play a guitar, you might as well get used to the full sized version from day one. But, some kids are really keen at a young age and they are not exactly tall, and people need to be of a physical size that they can see over the top of the body of the guitar, when it is on their lap and they need to be able to get their arm over the guitar to be able to pluck or strum the strings. In these circumstances a smaller version would be the way to go.
As far as cost goes, guitars (except for the ones professionals have) and especially cheap acoustic guitars for beginners are amongst the best value for money for musical instruments. If you are looking for a second hand one, then ask your guitar teacher whether they know of anyone wanting to sell one, or see whether you can get an ad at a local school. Its amazing how many people start to learn a musical instrument and then quit , so they no longer need an instrument - a win, win situation.
