Good Looking Drums

Having a drum set that looks a million can really help you as a drummer. Besides having the satisfaction of a nice clean shiny kit, it is actually good for your equipment to receive some maintenance once in a while. I am going to discuss the importance of having a well looked after and good looking drum kit and discuss some ways in which to achieve this.

Maintaining a good looking drum set can have benefits on the way your drum kit can sound. Think about it, not cleaning all that sweat and fingerprints from your cymbals will have a negative effect on the way they sound, sometimes even causing them to rust. Or having the cymbal covered in dirt and dust will give the feel of the full sound behind trapped behind a cover of grime.

As mentioned above having a well looked after and shiny drum kit can help the sound of your kit, but it also has an effect on your audience’s impression of you as a drummer. Drummers who have a good looking kit, and look like they go to the trouble to look after it, are perceived as being more serious about drumming, and the audience will pay more attention as they will assume they know what they are doing behind the kit.

It is a good idea to clean your cymbals and drums before each gig, or every couple of gigs depending on how much you perform or use your drum set. I would recommend cleaning your cymbals before each performance as having really shiny cymbals always catches your eye out in the crowd.

Another great way to make your drum kit look good is to replace your head on your drum kit. Having a nice new set of skins will make your drum set look really nice as well as improving the sound quality of your drums if your skins are more than a few weeks old.

To be able to clean drumming equipment well you will most likely need to purchase some drum cleaning products, as most household cleaning products can harm your drums or cymbals rather than help them. In conclusion it is a very good idea to regularly clean and maintain your drum kit. It can benefit you in helping overall sound as well as helping you to form a favourable impression with your audience. You may need to invest some money in some products specifically designed to clean cymbals and drums but the benefits are well worth it.
