When learning how to sing from your head voice. It's important to know that strengthening your chest voice is important too. Even if your chest voice is already good enough. It's still good advice to practice both at the same time. And invest the same amount of time to both your head voice and your chest voice. But for the sake of this article. We'll be talking more about learning how to sing from your head voice.
The first way to learn how to sing from your head voice is to first experience what it's like to sing from there. Just by saying a few simple words can help you feel the sensation of being there. Do this for me: Say "Wee". How does that feel? Say it in different keys and in different pitches. Start low and try to feel a bit of your head voice deep down in your chest voice.
If "wee" sounds to hard for you. Try saying "koo". If that doesn't work, try saying "eeee". As you can see, there are several different ways to experience the feeling of your head voice. If you notice, learning how to sing from your head voice really isn't that hard. All you gotta do is choose one word that I wrote above that suits your voice the best. Once you've chosen the best word for your voice. Move on to the next exercise.
The second exercise I enjoyed using when I was still learning was to then choose the word that worked best for me and use it on a scale. A scale can be done in several different ways. Others like to use five tone scales while others will enjoy using 3 tone scales. Just experiment with your voice. The more you try experimenting, the more you'll start seeing some changes.
The very last thing you should know when your still learning how to sing from your head voice is to remember to breathe properly. Always start out each practice session with some very good and effective breathing exercises.
The first breathing exercise I like to do in the morning is to say a really loud "SHHH". Breathe in really deep, then go "SHHH". Sort of like your telling somebody to be quiet, but doing it really loud. Make sure you release out all the air from your diaphragm. That way, you can really see whether or not you run out of air.
As you can see, these exercises are a great way to get yourself started in the right direction on learning how to sing from your head voice. Yes, it can be difficult at first, but you can't give up and you can't just accept your voice the way it is. Simply, because your voice was meant to be really good.
Also be sure to keep learning and to keep educating yourself. Take singing lessons, get a private coach, anything to help you get better.
