Skype Music Lessons: Why Their Awesome

People love music. People have been addicted to music as long as they've been addicted to food. The tradition of music is as old as human history, and it's not an art that's going to be lost any time soon.

Contrary to popular 80s - 90s culture, the internet is not a fad. In fact it has taken over EVERYTHING: media, entertainment, social interaction. The internet isn't going anywhere.

Isn't it great that we live in a culture where the two can be intertwined combining the wonder of the internet with the magic of the Skype software. Cultures are being shared and meshed together like never before, you can be in the US and receive musical instruction from a master Indian musician. The possibilities are many and the excitement is boundless. It's just a great time to be involved

So, needless to say, there are many advantages to taking music lessons with instructors over the Skype software. However, there are certainly some disadvantages you need to be aware of too.

Let's take a look at some of these disadvantages.

Disadvantages of Skype Music Lessons

  1. It is technology and it comes with all the same pitfalls of technology. Examples: your computer needs to be on it's best behavior, your internet connection needs to be sharp, you need a web cam and microphone that are conducive to proper practice.
  2. Vision can occasionally be limited. Sometimes it's just hard to get the web cam to stay in a position where it's at the best angle to watch your fingers on the piano, for example.
  3. The audio can be a bit choppy at times. At certain times the audio can get a bit choppy, but this usually only lasts a second or two.
  4. There can be a slight delay. This isn't a real big deal with most lessons (like voice lessons), but if we were trying to do a duet no piano a slight delay can be a little bit of a problem. For the most part though, it's no big deal.

There are some huge advantages as well.

Advantages of Skype Music Lessons

  1. Taken from the comfort of your own home. You don't have to leave the couch to participate in these lessons! You get to save money on gas and transportation, it's a super convenience.
  2. It's less creepy! Seriously, it can be unnerving going into a strangers home for the first time, and with Skype you never have to worry about taking music lessons from Jack the Ripper.
  3. It's just as personalized. You may not be able to physically touch your instructor, but you still get the same private, personalized, work at your own pace type of experience that private music lessons are known for.
  4. It takes less time from your day. You don't have to worry about commuting, dressing up, or taking a shower or anything like that so the only time it takes out of your busy schedule is the time of the actual lesson.
  5. You can get lessons from all over the world. If you're interested in music from all over the world, you can find an instructor from anywhere in the world, and study their unique brand of music.
  6. It Costs Less! Because things can occasionally go wrong with technology, Skype music lessons are always going to be priced a little bit lower.

Plus, there are plenty I could throw in there. As you can see, when you take Skype Music Lessons, you get a convenient, diverse experience at a cheaper price than most lessons.
