If I can tell you one thing about having a studio, it's this, people seem to neglect their studio once they have it. You spend all this time wishing and wanting until you finally get it, only to let it collect dust. This article is about motivation. I want to talk about what you could be doing with your studio.
First you have to learn and learn until you are sick of it. Then learn some more. The only way you are going to get the maximum out of your equipment is to learn it. All equipment is different so don't think you can work one just because you worked the other. If you have a common sense of these things then things shouldn't be that hard.
After you have more knowledge of the equipment your using you will notice your music and sounds are sounding more better. You have new tricks and strategies to make your music sound the way you want it to. Keep going, keep learning. I've found out so much new information by researching the equipment I have, talking in forums and watching youtube videos.
Even though you know a lot about your equipment you still have to have a good ear for sound. When you can pull up a session, set up your mic, pull up a beat, and record vocals, then you are ready for mixing. To mix you have to listen real good. You have to listen closer then the normal ear. It takes time and practice to train your ear to hear un-leveled audio and know how to level it. Sometimes you have to take a break from recording and listening to let your ear rest. When you come back to your music you will come back with fresh ears.
Sometimes we over work our selves in the studio until our ears become numb. Not deaf, but numb. They get used to hearing un mixed and mastered music over and over until you start to think the un mixed version sounds good. You have to play mixed and mastered music in between sessions to give your self a standard of what a final mix sounds like. Another way to test your mix is to burn a mix that your satisfied with to a cd and play it in your car. If you have an ok sound system you should be able to hear any errors you might want to change or adjust.
After you have gotten everything down and you really know what your doing then you are ready to start bringing in finance through your studio, and that is something that will change your whole position in the music business.
