These days you can learn a lot online. From how to bake bread to when to move chilli plants outside. (Those are two things I've recently learned) The bread turned out great and I'm looking forward to harvesting my first chilli's. In this article I'm going to be talking about drumming lessons online. There are many different types from free one off lessons to free courses. Subscription courses as well as one off paid lessons.
Free Lessons
I'm sure you have noticed the amount of free lessons on video sites like Youtube. Some of these are great, some not so much, but they can be a great source of information if you can tell the good from bad. One thing worth realising is the production value of the video doesn't always relate to the quality of the content. If someone's playing doesn't look relaxed or you just don't like the things the player is doing it's time to move on.
Free Courses
Some websites offer free drum courses where you can have multiple drum lessons emailed to you. Sometimes these will be one at a time over the course of a few weeks or months. Other times you will get instant access to all the lessons in the course. This can be a great way to learn if you have found a free course that matches your goals. Either a beginner course or a course on a particle style.
Subscription Courses
We are seeing a lot of subscription courses popping up recently they range in price from $20-$50 a month and some come with access to a back catalog of lessons. Some have multiple teachers which share the teaching job as they all specialise in different genres/styles of teaching. Other sites have one teacher and you are buying in to them and their teaching style. As this is getting more popular big drum companies are really getting behind drummers doing this as it's really taking off.
One Off Paid Drum Lessons
I think this is the best way to learn drumming lessons online. Research has shown that by paying for something rather than relying on free resources, you are more likely to use the information acquired as you will have invested in it. The reason these lessons are better in my opinion than subscription courses is that your teacher will be teaching a subject of your choosing or suited perfectly for you. They will give you feed back on your playing that is just for you so you will improve at a faster rate.
I hope you have enjoyed finding out about the different types of online drumming lessons that are available. Weather you chose free, paid, one-one or group the most important thing is you put in the hard work to see results. Don't forgot to have fun at the same time though.
