How Did Whitney Houston Die? Lets Celebrate Her Life Instead

I'm not sure where to even start when trying to write about an American Icon like Whitney Houston. Someone with her talent and voice comes around once in a lifetime if we're lucky. Almost everyone knows at least some Whitney Houston lyrics. 49 years old is to young for anyone to go, and it is a sad time across the nation to think that her struggles may have, in the end, been to much. As of now, only the LA county coroners office knows what actually happened to her, leaving the rest of us to ask the question, how did Whitney Houston die?

It is almost not necessary to give her background story because almost anyone alive today has heard her voice and knows what an amazing gift she had. I will give a brief description for the sake of this article staying news related and not just opinion. Whitney started singing when she was 11 years old in a church choir near her home in New Jersey. It was not long before she was discovered by Clive Davis and his record label while singing along side her mother. She was almost immediately an icon in the music industry. Her voice one of a kind and to top it off, she was such a beautiful woman. Whitney Houston was the total package. She went on to sell over 170 million albums, singles, and videos across the globe. In 2009, Guinness World Records named her the most awarded female act of all time, and her list of awards is mind blowing. She landed 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, and many others which combined for a grand total of 415 career awards. What we wouldn't give for just a few more songs by Whitney Houston.

I am a sports fan at heart, and to me her most memorable performance was her rendition of the National Anthem at Superbowl XXV. The Gulf War was in full swing, and the level of patriotism across the nation rivaled that of September 11th. I would bet that anyone watching that game had goosebumps the size of walnuts on their arms.

She passed away on February 11, 2012 while in Beverly Hills for Clive Davis's annual pre-Grammy party. Whitney made several public appearances in the days leading up to this where people reported that she was acting a little crazy. One report said she was spotted skipping around a ballroom, and another stated that she was seen doing handstands by the hotel pool. She may have been just letting loose and having a good time, but because of her well publicized struggles with addiction the news has another opinion. Originally it was said that she died from drowning in her hotel bath tub. Now L.A. County coroner officials are saying that it was from a mix of drug and alcohol. We won't know the official cause until the results of her autopsy are released sometime in the future.

The public reaction has definitely been a mixed one. New Jersey governor Chris Christie is under fire right now for his decision to fly flags at half staff over government buildings this Saturday, the day of her funeral. It is sad that the public places more emphasis on the problems she had, rather than all of her successes. Her life should be celebrated, not her mistakes. Granted she had many struggles, but who hasn't. One of which was Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's marriage that was surrounded by public controversy. They divorced in 2006. They did end up with a beautiful daughter Bobbi Kristine, so it wasn't all for nothing.

You said it first Whitney, now we're gonna say it to you: We Will Always Love You.
