Tom Jones thinks Simon Cowell is Out of His Depth When it Comes to Judging Singing Talent
71 year old singer Tom Jones who is known for his consistently strong, seductive vocals on classic songs like She's a Lady, It's not Unusually and What's New Pussycat, has a bone to pick with fellow TV talent competition judge Simon Cowell. Tom Jones recently sat down with the Daily Mirror and expressed his frustration about the current trend of singing competition shows on television: "It frustrates me when people comment on others singing when they haven’t actually been there themselves. You’ve got the shows with record executives, people who are listening for commercial reasons and whether someone will sell."
Jones also specifically referred to Simon Cowell as "A record man" who is not truly qualified to judge singers since he has never been one himself. Jones joins a panel of experienced and accomplished music artists who will act as coaches for the UK version of hit TV competition show 'The Voice'. Tom Jones will face off with Jessie J, will-i-am from The Black Eyed Peas and Danny O'Donoghue.
E! Gets in the Music TV Show Game
The entertainment network known for reality shows and celebrity gossip will cash in on the music TV show trend with the premiere of new show Opening Act this summer. The premise of the show will focus on unknown musical acts from the internet who are selected by producers and given the opportunity to open for major music artists like Mary J. Blige. The show comes from American Idol Producer Nigel Lythgoe and airs on July 9th.
The Power of Music on Television: How a TV Ad Song Revitalized the Career of a Music Artist
Singer and songwriter Alex Clare had moved to Israel as a real estate agent after his debut album with UK record label Universal Island had a lukewarm reception on the charts leading to a dismissal from his contract. It is at this point that the business of music licensing saved the day. When computer company giant Microsoft decided to use a song from Clare s album called 'Too Close' in an new TV ad campaign for Internet Explorer 9, viewers fell in love with the song and took to the internet to find it.
Alex Clare, who once dated late singer Amy Winehouse experienced a serious comeback as his old album The Lateness of the Hour which included the song Too Close gained popularity selling 10 times the amount it did when it was originally released. I think it is safe to say Alex Clare s real estate days are over thanks to Microsoft using his music on television. Alex has an official music video for his song Too Close on YouTube.
