If you've been around long enough to become a good ol' fashioned cook, then you know that you can take a recipe that Mom used to make, tweek the ingredients just a bit, and turn one of her recipes into something that everyone in your family loves. Starting a home based business from home on the internet can be done in a similar fashion.
Let's say you have a recipe that calls for walnuts but your spouse or one of your children don't like walnuts. You can change the ingredient of walnuts to pecans, something that your child likes and then you've turned something Mom used to make into a successful dessert that everyone in the family loves!
Starting a business from home can work in a similar manner if you're new to internet marketing and don't know what works and what doesn't. Let's say you decided you were going to try affiliate marketing. So you get started with what you think will work out best for you. If it doesn't go the way you had hoped, you can change things to a way you are happy with, the same way you change a recipe to make it better.
I began a home based business after a car accident left me unable to continue my job as a warehouse supervisor. I had never done anything to make money on the internet before other than selling a few things on Ebay, so I spent the first few weeks just doing research on the internet on what there was available on making money online. That in itself can be quite overwhelming and confusing. There are endless numbers of programs and businesses that promise thousands of dollars that work on auto-pilot with little work on your part. While it is true that most internet businesses can work on auto-pilot, that is mostly just true because the internet is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and never closes. While it sounds like it works automatically, it more means that there are products that you are given or you can purchase that can assist you in getting customers to buy from your business even when you are not online.
After I spent several weeks sifting through all that I found that seemed to promise an easy way to start a business online, I chose to start with Better Web Builder, a program that promised over $100 each month in tools, features and services for free. It was a business that would be helpful to grow an internet business a person already had, or something that even a "newbie" would be able to read and learn how to start their own home based business.
I was definitely that "newbie", and had no idea how an internet business worked, let alone have it work while I was not online. So, at first I decided to see how it could work as a stand-alone business for me since I had no other product or business online to promote. Better Web Builder had the many tools and features that I had seen when I was researching that cost a monthly fee on many of them, such as web hosting, autoresponders, and domain names just to name a few. So since all of these were free, I would be able to save money and not have to pay for any of those things. Every tool or feature they had gave a very clear explanation of how it worked, or how I could make it work for me, so that was very helpful.
So while it was very easy to work with the tools and had a compensation plan that was good if you promoted the business, I thought I would tweek the idea of promoting Better Web Builder and since they provided me with my own web space, I came up with the idea of sifting through all the programs and businesses that I had researched earlier, and use my site to discuss, promote and describe only programs and online businesses that cost no money for people that wanted to have a business from home, but didn't have the money to get started.
It is fun to share the businesses that don't cost money that I find with others that need a start without having money to get started, and it can also be a way to make money when others sign up for the free businesses. But it is also an example of how you can take one kind of business that you start from scratch on the internet, tweek it just a bit, and turn it into something that everyone can use. Not everyone can afford to buy into an internet business or purchase web space, domain names, autoresponders or other things needed to have a successful business. But everyone can afford to try something that doesn't have a cost involved.
So whether you are just starting from scratch and want to run a home based business or maybe you have a business on the internet but are not totally satisfied with how it is going, there are many different things you can do to change the ingredients just a little, and turn it into a recipe for success. The internet is a great place where you can work from home and there is no one to tell you what you can or can not do, so take time to find what works the best for you. In the end, the most important person will be satisfied with the ingredients that you put into it, and that person is of course you.
