Just the other day I saw a Hungarian friend of mine, an ex-student of mine, promoting a website on her page with a long, very enthusiastic write up. The business was a second-hand clothing shop from imported shipment.
Of course I read it because I genuinely care about my ex-students and I wish them success and happiness. I follow their pages, watch their posting and pictures and take interest in their activities. Occasionally, I even add comments and share a word of advice.
When I saw this long and very enthusiastic write up on this second-hand clothing business and the shared website I got excited for her because I was hoping that the business will go well and brings success to her. I had my opinion about the second-hand clothing business though. Not because there is anything wrong with it. Four decades ago when I loved in Hungary, I had a few girlfriends who shopped at second-hand shops from imported charity clothing and they always fished out some incredibly great, fashionable items. They looked fantastic! However, I hated even the smell of these clothing even if they looked great. I just can't wear second-hand clothing and that has not changed during the decades. This is just a little additional comment about my own second-hand clothing background.
After reading her long write up about the business, I clicked on the website check it out. I was interested. Right on the front of the page there were some serious mistakes in the English version of the page so I took notes and let her know about them. Whole sentences were there that did not make any sense in English. My motivation was to help. If in any way I can assist my ex-students in their business endeavours, I will do that.
Shortly came back her email reply with a thank you for noticing the mistakes. She also let me know that the business was not hers but her boss's.
That is when I lost my mind so to speak... My biggest problem here is not the second-hand clothing, although I am really sad that in times when there are so many incredible business opportunities are available, even ones where you don't need to come up with products, business structure and huge capital to get into business, this is the best someone close to me can do... My biggest problem is that my ex-student was crazy enough to promote the business of her BOSS on her OWN Facebook page!
I simply can't comprehend how servant minded we have become by social conditioning. Instead of taking our fate and running our own lives, we follow instructions and sell our time, our talent, our genius, our freedom and our best ages to make someone else rich.
There are so many clever business ideas out there that can change lives if people get started, keep working and don't quit. There has never been better time to be a woman and to get into business for yourself than now.
Just remember, if you don't follow your own dreams and build your business, you are building someone else's!
Cheers, Piroska
