Gadhafi Remains Missing, Wife And Family In Algeria

The whereabouts of Moammar Gadhafi remains a mystery, however, his wife, three of his children and several grandchildren have landed in Algeria. According to Mourad Ben Mehedi, the Algerian Ambassador to the United Nations has told Security General Ban Ki-Moon that Safia Gadhafi, the leader’s wife and his daughter Aisha have been allowed in the country on “humanitarian grounds” Mehedi has said that none of the Gadhafi’s were subject to any travel limitations or bans. However, this is not true according to UN Security Counsel Resolution 1970 which was passed on February 26.

The United Nations requires that all member states prevent those listed by the bans from entering into any territory under their control unless there are unique and specific conditions that would warrant an exception to the ban. In addition, the countries are allowed to evaluate case by case as long as the proper notification is made within two days of the determination. The National Transitional Council may still demand that the Gadhafi family members be returned to Libya to stand trial, but it is not sure if that will be the first priority.

Another of Gadhafi’s sons, Khamis, has reportedly been killed in battle against the rebel forces in an area of northwest Libya, between Tarunah and Bani Walid. Mahd al Harati, the Vice Chairman of the Rebel Military Council reported that Khamis was injured in battle, taken to a hospital and later died of his injuries. He was reportedly then buried by rebel forces. There has been no confirmation that Khamis was actually killed at this time.

Aisha Gadhafi, currently in Algeria, had been a good will ambassador for the UN Development program but was released from her duties with the organization when her father’s actions against protesters turned violent. Aisha had been assigned to the post to focus on HIV/AIDS as well as violence against women in Libya and had reportedly been keeping a very low profile during the ongoing conflict and uprising. According to other family members, she is due to give birth in the coming weeks.

Hannibal Gadhafi, another of the Gadhafi son’s had been busy making headlines for news other than political or military, throwing lavish parties that frequently including A list celebrities from the United States which has included Beyonce, Usher and Mariah Carey to name a few. After a severe backlash, most of those celebrities have given back any and all money that they recieved from these performances. Aline Skaf, Hannibal’s wife has reportedly earned a reputation as more than a model after allegations of her cruel hand wielded against her staff members. A nanny came forward to the media to report that she has been repeatedly and severely burned after being directed to beat a crying child.

Gadhafi, his son and his brother in law are wanted on multiple human rights charges filed against them by the the International Criminal Court in the Hague./
