Gingrich’s Entire Team Bails Before Hitting the Campaign Trail

Newt Gingrich and his wife, Callista were on a two week vacation to the Greek Isles. Unfortunately, the Republican candidate was supposed to be at a major and very important event, one that was attended by every other presidential candidate. But, that was not the only problem with the Gingrich campaign. Amid reports of mountains of debt and a lack of dedication and hard word, the team that would have served to help him have quit. The campaign team had gotten together and discussed their plans with nearly all of them agreeing that their candidate was not heading in the right direction. They waited for Gingrich to return from his ill timed vacation to inform him of the decision.

In addition to top aids and senior members of the Gingrich campaign staff, the entire paid staff in Iowa have also announced that they are leaving, effective immediately. Some of those staffers have already joined the campaigns of other political hopefuls. The main reason cited by most of the aides was a lack of cohesive direction for the direction of the campaign. Former spokesman, Rick Tyler summed it up by saying that Gingrich just would not campaign aggressively and was obviously not taking things seriously enough.

In addition to Tyler, who has worked with Gingrich for many years, campaign manager, Rob Johnson, Senior strategists, Sam Dawson and Dave Carney are among those who have quit. Two consultants who had been working on the campaign also gave up their position.

Gingrich, accepted the mass resignations saying that it sometimes happens in the beginning of a campaign. On his Facebook page, Gingrich went on to say that his campaign will begin anew on Sunday, in Los Angeles, California.

One of the concerns voiced by those involved in the campaign revolved around the mounting debts being racked up by the Gingrich family. Financial disclosure forms for Callista Gingrich showed that there are between $250,001 and $500,000 in debt in her name to Tiffany and Company alone. Gingrich dismissed that debt as “personal”

Gingrich’s campaign had issues before most of his staff left him, however. His personal problems, including past behavior with his previous wives have repeatedly come back to haunt him and polls are showing that he does not have the confidence of the American people. In an ABC News/Washington Post Poll, nearly 40% of the Republicans and Republican leaning independents said that Gingrich lacked the temperament nor the personality that it would take to be President.

The Republican party still has no one clear, stand out favorite to back but the field of hopeful candidates may be narrowing slightly. Sarah Palin, long considered a dark horse candidate has yet to have officially announced her intentions, although she has embarked on a tour of historical sites that she kicked off on Memorial Day. Some of those stops have been prime media moments as Palin rewrites American history.
