Everyone is Familiar with Google. We use it in our daily lives every time we open up any type of internet browser. The Search engine has redefined the way we search for items on the internet for over a decade and some change. For those who pay a bit more attention to the search engine apart from using it to get to Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc, They have just updated their Policies as of March 1st (As I'm typing this, well over an hour since it has been in effect).
Now one would have to think, why on earth are they updating them again!? Well.. basically google is trying to make it easier on themselves so they can post more ads around the internet (Where a nice sum of their revenue comes from). The thing is, google wasn't meant to go live with this change. "France's data protection agency (CNIL) officials said on behalf of European Union members that, after a preliminary review of the company's privacy policy changes, "Google's new policy does not meet the requirements of the European Directive on Data Protection." Basically what that means is that they didn't get approved yet for policies insuring the safety of your data being viewed or what not.
The European regulators even went as far as requesting for a delay in the policy update. Google, being the cool people that they are decided to go along with the change anyways, despite being asked to wait a few. Google even came back with a statement stating "Hey well...we tried to get in contact with you but you guys didn't answer, so we are like whatever with it and launching as planned anyways." Of course, that wasn't what was said but if gives you some type of idea.
Google even went a step further by stating if people don't like their policies, that they can stop using their services altogether. Yea, that would be nice...but considering to the fact that you have 350 million+ people using their email services such as gmail and hotmail (Including from personal accounts to Business), it's not that easy. The amount of time and money for some of these businesses to simply switch to another service would be way too great for them to perform.
So, they void the data protection, giving them more rights for them to monitor what you do in your daily searches. They check your history, cookies, everything.. which doesn't make you feel comfortable or safe anymore.
My opinion on Google's policy update:
I personally do not like the fact they are shafting people for the sake of making more money. They have to evade even more of our privacy so they can simply sell more ads, then turn around and say "well if you don't like it, use something else." I still like google, don't get me wrong.. but when you treat the people who make your business like crap, then people are less inclined to use you and keep you on top.
