How Excessive Crime Has Nearly Caused The Extinction Of Hitchhiking

In most every decent and caring person, if you peel back some of the layers, you will find a Good Samaritan. Many of us were raised by the golden rule, and taught to do no wrong or harm to others. Being born in a rural area, at one time, folks could leave their doors unlocked and return the next day, and find everything in-tact. If you were going out of town, you could ask your friendly neighbor to water your plants while you were away.

Not anymore. If you leave your home unlocked today, upon your return, prepare to make a shopping list, because everything will be gone. Unless you have personally known the neighbor for many years and you fully trust them, don’t ask them to watch your house. Matter of fact, you should sneak away like a theft in the night so no one will detect your absence. If some of those in the neighborhood think you are home, this may give your home a few days of safety. Even then, that may not be a deterrent, because the hold-up man will force entry while you and your family are at home.

During the height of the Viet Nam war, albeit he wasn’t supposed to do so, a soldier could hitchhike from Florida to New York faster than the time it would take by greyhound. Many of us had a sense of brotherhood and would do most anything for a soldier in uniform.

It really pains me to say what I am about to say, but it must be said. I can say this because I have been there. If you see an isolated solider today, think twice before you approach. When I left Viet Nam, I was so strung out on drugs and alcohol that I was a danger to myself as well as others and I only served one tour of duty. I really feel sorry for these veterans of today who have served multi-tours in the wars. It has been more than forty years, and every night I still go off to war. I just hope they get the needed help. Without getting into politics, I will say the president seems to care about the plight of our veterans, and that is a good thing.

Let me get back on track, whenever I talk about some things, it always leads me there.

Many criminals have become very good at devising tactics to take advantage of their prey. For example, they may use an attractive female decoy to steal a man’s car. You know how some men think.

My point is, be forever vigilant when around or approached by stranger. I had better take this a few steps further. Anytime you are around any human beings, be cautious. Some of your own family members will rip you off. While a few folks may be in jail innocently, the majority are there for committing actual crimes.

Mercy For Terrorist, Not For Obama
The New York Times, October 8, 2011, reports that the President's staff needed to discuss legalities before he ordered the attack on the US-born Al-Qaeda terrorist, Anwar al-Awlaki. That's ridiculous. Our government has always executed traitors, saboteurs, and spies--the only interesting 'news' in this article is: "USA becomes so civilized,…
