Is Amanda Knox Really A She Devil Or Is She Innocent As She Claims?

Carlo Pacelli, the lawyer who is representing Diya “Patrick” Lumumba has called American college student, Amanda Knox, a she-devil who killed her roommate in a drug and alcohol fueled sex party that got out of control. Lumumba, a Congolese national who owns a bar in Perugia that Knox occasionally worked in, was accused of the crime, in what his attorney said was nothing more than a desperate attempt to cover her own tracks. The Italian court system hears both civil and criminal proceedings at one time.

The closing arguments in Knox’s appeal case were heard over the weekend and may determine whether Knox will be released and allowed to return to the United States or forced to return to Italian prison to serve the rest of her twenty six year prison term. Knox, her boyfriend and another man were all found guilty of killing the roommate of Knox, Meredith Kercher. Kercher, a student from the UK was stabbed to death in November 2007. At the time, Knox was questioned in the death and arrested several days later. Critics have pointed to what they are calling inept police work from the start.

Lumumba, accused of killing Kercher in Knox’s initial questioning was arrested and held for two weeks before being cleared and released. He is seeking damages from Knox for that detention.

Pacelli has continued to drive home what he calls the two faces of Amanda Knox, claiming that she is not the innocent she tries to portray herself as but rather a sex crazed murderer. He has said that on the night of Kercher’s murder, Knox was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

When police first arrived on the bloody scene, they found Kercher’s nude body under a blanket and one broken window. It appeared that a robbery had taken place but nothing of any value could be determined to have been taken making them suspect that it had been staged.  Knox originally told police that she was home at the time of the murder and that she remembered hearing Kercher scream at some point. She later said that the police had misinterpreted what she had said and that she had told them that she had been with her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito at his home.

DNA evidence allegedly gathered at the scene put both Knox and Sollecito in the small cottage, DNA from both was found on the knife thought to have been the murder weapon while Sollecito’s DNA was found on the victim’s bra clasp. Police did find evidence of a third person, Rudy Guede, a drifter from the Ivory Coast. His fingerprints were found on a cushion under Kercher’s body. Guede was found guilty of murder in 2008 and sentenced to sixteen years. Knox and Sollicito were both found guilty the following year with Knox given a sentence of twenty six years. Sollicito’s sentence was one year less.
