Job Seekers

With a lot of university graduate friends desperately trying to look for a job to kick start their career, I thought I would talk about employment, I say talk it is more of a rant.

Most of the recent graduates I know have yet to find a suitable job to match their university degree let alone their ambitions. I see a lot of them trying hard and applying for jobs everyday with no success yet they are treated the same as a ‘bum’ who lives the job seekers allowance and has no intention of working let alone applying for jobs; people are getting an easy ride from the government and this is the problem we have in today’s society.

A lot of university graduates would rather work full time at a bar or restaurant (with not much pay) when they leave university than to sign on the dole whereas someone else would rather be a drain on the hard working person’s taxes and wait around for a job that they believe is good enough pay or they have no real motivation or intention on finding a job and opt for an easy ride.

I think that the government should introduce a new system where a person that is receiving job seekers allowance should have to prove they are looking and actively going to interviews, so effectively proving that they are seeking a job. The system now involves going into the job centre every two weeks and signing a few pieces of paper and then they get at least £45 a week and also have their rent paid for them. I think this is totally unacceptable as the country is in debt yet it is still paying for people to lounge around and do nothing for society or the economy, Yes there may not be many jobs around but if a person if receiving such allowances then they have to make sure they qualify to receive it.

Another option (which I believe is the best) would be to introduce statutory work experience for the person claiming job seekers allowance; this could be anything from doing community services or working for their local councils to earn that allowances they receive each week, this would also look good on the persons C.V which would again help success rates in finding a job. This is a perfect way of making people earn their money instead of getting paid to sit around and do nothing.

I think this is a major issue that needs to be looked at as a fair amount of people receiving job seekers allowance spend their money on alcohol and drugs and not actually on trying to find a suitable job. Well that my opinion anyway. I apologise for the rant but this is an issue that really irritates me.

This is me…. signing out.
