Some things in life seem to defy logic, or have no plausible answers. If you go to any large mall in this country on a Saturday or Sunday, you will find the parking lot overflowing with cars. I find this amazing, you may call it stupid for me to even be thinking of such a thing. Any way, help me with this. If you isolate one day, we will say Saturday, is their some unspoken code that allow the folks to come on that day.
I often wonder what would happen if all the people that will visit the mall Sunday, decided to visit on Saturday. With the parking lot overflowing with Saturday people, where would all these folks park? With the parking lot being filled to capacity on Saturday, I often wonder if the Saturday folks returned on Sunday, or, are the two days very independent of each other.
Even when the parking lot is full, people will circle around for hours just to secure a parking space. Please do not let there be some form of miscommunication regarding a soon to be empty space, you just may see the beginning of world war III. For example, you may observe someone about to egress a space, you set your sights for that spot. Unbeknownst to you, someone else has trained his or her eyes on the same spot. I know you have heard of road rage, well, let me introduce you to parking lot rage.
Even though both drivers see each other, they pretend not to. Each mind is calculating a plan to take this space. Man, this is serious business. As the driver slowly backs out, each wonder in what direction, will the driver go? This is all-important because one driver will have an advantage over the other. Still, they pretend not to see each other. If the driver backs out and goes left, one of the drivers could actually block the space. That is exactly what happened. The other driver was so furious that he used his car as a battering ram to move the car. This one incident caused damages to three other cars and the drivers of the two cars going to the hospital.
I have learned to stay away from the mall on those two days unless it is an emergency. My spouse will go shopping and return home complaining about the traffic, each time I tell her to go early so she can avoid the rush. I stopped saying that because I am convinced that the annoyance factor is part of the thrill of shopping. No one can persuade me to believe otherwise.
Nice article! Someone once commented to me about this same problem saying "I'm surprised that there are not bodies laying all over the parking lot over there." Since you first of all had trouble finding a space to park and secondly,. people would not pay attention when walking to and from their cars...just step right out in front of you.
