People Benefiting Off Of Steve Jobs Passing

It is sad that one of the most influential people in the world passed.  It is even more sad when people are trying to make a buck off of it.  I'm here to notify of you of one good thing and one bad thing that I recently saw right now flipping through the news and facebook.

The bad:

As I was browsing through the "Top Stories" on my home facebook page, I noticed something too good to be true.  A friend of mine had posted "RIP Steve" and a link that says "In Memory of Steve Jobs, Apple has decided to give away 1000 Limited Edition iPad 2's".  Right away, I knew something fishy was going on.  I clicked on the link to see where it would take me.  It says that you can "Like" the page and type in "RIP Steve" and you can get an iPad 2 before it runs out or before October 10th, 2011.  Then, I quickly typed in "steve jobs scam" and a blog about this whole thing came up.  The number of iPads left in their screenshot was the same as when I clicked on it.  According to the site, it will lead you to another page asking for your personal information.  Once you enter in your personal information, it will then make you sign up for other support links that request more personal information, etc.  By "Like"-ing the link, you let others fall for the same scam.

However, there is a good news story for a graphics design student in Hong Kong, Jonathan Mak Long.

The good:

The logo that was created has Steve Jobs' silouette as the "apple bite", which is so creative.  And apparently thousands of other people think so too!  This design student has received many job offers, but I think he didn't acknowledge them yet because he said he's still a student.

I'm sure there are many other apple-related tributes that have made the news, but these two are the most outstanding ones to me.  It is appalling that people would scam others "In Memory of Steve Jobs".  However, it is also silly of people to really believe that a free iPad would come their way.  There have been many scams about free iPads before, this one is no different.  However, I am glad that something good came out of this for a person by doing a true tribute and honor for the great Steve Jobs.

Yeah, they are not the only ones taking advantage of tragic events...unfortunately our governments do the exact same thing. Every tragedy, natural disaster, or shocking event is an opportunity, think of hurricane katrina or 9/11...if you read on the businesses that were generated from this it might make you far more sick than what is happening with the Steve Jobs situation by people promoting free ipads.

Seriously, I totally agree with you Kyle. This situation is just minuscule compared to the bigger picture with what is happening in our country.

This is shady, but it's also how the Internet has worked for years now. Scruples are tough to find sometimes.
