Jose Baez and the rest of Casey Anthony’s defense team were hoping for a quiet release for their client. The jail that has been her home for the past three years had planned several different exit plans, hoping to avoid any major confrontations and to try to protect America’s most hated person and for good reason. Baez said in a statement that he had been sent an email featuring a photo of Casey Anthony, a bullet hole in her forehead.
It was just after midnight when she walked out, flanked by armed deputies and whisked into a waiting SUV to an undisclosed location. There were about one hundred people waiting for her to emerge, some shouting and others carrying signs. Interspersed among the people who violently hate Casey Anthony, though, were a few supporters including one man who carried a sign asking her to marry him.
George and Cindy Anthony had initially said that they were not sure if Casey could come to their home but issue a secondary statement saying that she was not welcome at this point. George and Cindy had both been in hiding as well after receiving several death threats immediately after the verdict was read less than two weeks ago.
The relationship in the Anthony family was strained when the defense delivered its dramatic opening day bombshell that young Caylee had died in the family’s swimming pool and that George and Casey had covered it up together. Baez also told the jury that Casey behavior was so strange, at least to the untrained eye, because she had been molested by her father as well as her brother and had learned to lie and to hide her real feelings as a defense mechanism. Ironically, neither the defense nor the prosecution brought this up when questioning any member of the Anthony family on the stand.
Casey’s relationship with her mother had been strained, even before the trial begin. Cindy had accused Casey of stealing money and Casey had started to resent the affection her mother was showing her daughter. After Casey’s arrest, she refused visits from Cindy, refusing a visit from her after the verdict as well.
Twitter and Facebook have both been exploding with anti-Casey Anthony pages as well as information from people about vigils for justice and more. Lawmakers, some of them opening disgusted by what has happened in the case, are working on Caylee’s law, which will make it a criminal act to not report your child missing or to not call law enforcement if your child is found dead. George Anthony is reportedly in great support of the law.
Casey Anthony, 26 years old is a high school dropout who has not held a job since 2006. She is also someone who would be recognized on the spot and so reviled that hiring her might be a bad idea for any company. Someone close to her has said that she is emotionally unstable at this point and just needs to be somewhere to think.
