There Is No Such Thing As Race

"Race" is a made up concept. Anatomically, all people are the same, except for individual differences.

The really big differences, such as skin color, hair texture and so on, were cause by evolution.

Here's what happened way back when. Millions and millions of years ago, human beings arose---or came down out of the trees---in the Great Rift Valley in Africa.

Back then, the continents weren't as far apart as they are now. In fact, there was just one big continent. The continents hadn't yet begun to drift away from each other.

Through the millennia, people walked in search of food, perhaps following herds of animals, and so humanity dispersed to the ends of the earth. All this dispersing wasn't done in a few weekend trips. It took millions and millions of years. That was a right smart bit of walking those people did, but then they had plenty of time. And while all this walking was going on, evolution was working its magic.

So the people who finally fetched up in the cold countries such as Scandinavia got whiter and whiter. Their hair got yellower and yellower. Their eyes got bluer and bluer. They didn't need so much protection from the sun, you see. It wasn't because they were so intrinsically wonderful. As a matter of fact, in their later days, in spite of their whiteness and yellowness and blueness, they became pretty ferocious people. You've heard, I'm sure, of the Vikings?

Whereas, the people who liked warmer weather hung around the equator where they certainly needed all the protection from the sun they could possibly get.

So their skin got darker and darker and their hair got curlier and curlier so the breeze could blow through it more easily, thus cooling down their heads a little.

All humans have in their bodies specialized cells called melanocytes. People all over the world have the same number of melanin producing cells. The only difference is that the really white skinned folk's melanocytes are programmed by evolution to put out just a little melanin. Whereas, the melanocytes of the blackest people near the equator are programmed to put out a ton of melanin. All this melanin makes their skin and hair and eyes dark, thus protecting them from the sun. Otherwise, those folks would have a big problem with massive cases of sunburn.

So you see that we are all actually cousins. All of us have ancestors who came from the same place---The Great Rift Valley in Africa. Therefore, if one person thinks that he or she is "better" than the next person, it's just not true. We are all the same except for minor individual differences.

Thankfully, racism is finally on its hateful way out. Seventeen percent of the marriages contracted today are "interracial", and that percentage is bound to increase in the future. Soon everyone will be just---tan.

There are some old folks who hang on to old fashioned prejudices, but as those folks pass on to the Hereafter, their places will be taken by new people who will judge folks by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin, as Dr. King had hoped. It will be a happier world.

Jesus said. "Love thy neighbor as thyself". The happiest people are those who can follow this advice.

That reminds me of a story of a man who died and went to the Hereafter. An angel was showing the man around. First the angel showed the man into a huge room in which there was a long, long table. There were hundreds of people sitting on each side of the table. In the front of each person was a big bowl of succulent food, but the only implement provided with which to eat the delicious food was a spoon with a very long handle. The people were totally miserable because they weren't able to get the food into their mouths, no matter how hard they tried. There was much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

"This is Hell", the angel told the man.

Then the angel conducted the man to another room, same table, same number of people, same bowls of succulent food, same long handled spoons. But in this room, the people were smiling and happy and joyous. They were all feeding each other.

"And this is Heaven", the angel said.
