Victoria Bc: The Best Place In Canada to Retire

After putting in years and years of work at their full time job, most seniors are eagerly awaiting for one day - arguably the biggest day of their life. The day when their entire working career comes to a wonderful halt. Most fresh retirees (if you would like to call them that) start beginning to wonder what to do with their free time. They start to ask themselves "Should we travel? Should we downsize?" But the biggest question has to be "Should we relocate?"

If you have no job holding you back, the prospects of relocating are much more realistic. A lot of the time, retirees want to relocate closer to family or friends. But for most, its just about escaping to somewhere nicer for the next chapter of their life.

So, where is the best place to retire in Canada? It’s a little city on Vancouver Island called Victoria - just off the coast of BC.

Victoria BC is a hotbed for fresh retirees and one of the biggest reasons for this is because of the lifestyle. When you get old, it gets tough to deal with the cold - not to mention snow. For someone who is 80 years old, the last thing they want to be doing is trying to trek through four feet of snow in a walker.

This is why so many retirees from all different parts of Canada migrate to Victoria. Victoria is one of the few places in Canada where you can almost escape the wrath of winter. There is years where there is no snow, or some years there is snow for only two weeks. Compare that to places like Calgary or Montreal, which have the better part of four months of harsh winter (we are talking see your breath kind of winters).

On top of the climate, the lifestyle in Victoria is hard to beat. Due to the city's size, people tend to be more relaxed and laid back. It’s often referred to as “island syndrome”. In big city’s, everyone is always go go go! But in Victoria, things get done, but they get done on “island” time! When you have retired, you want to separate yourself from the fast paced lifestyle. You really want to slow things down and Victoria's vibe is just that.

The one factor that seems to be the deal maker for most people visiting Victoria is the views. If you're moving from Manitoba, Calgary, or Ottawa, you never get a chance to see the ocean around you. But in Victoria, you're surrounded by water! There is so much waterfront real estate that your bound to find something with a spectacular view. If you happened to have made a few bucks in your day, you might be lucky enough to snatch up one of the amazing waterfront luxury condos in Victoria. The purchase might make a dent in your retirement fund, but just imagine waking up to 180 degree views of oceanfront, in a city with no harsh winters, great people, and a nearly non-existent crime rate.

When your last few days at work are near, and you still fancy yourself a loyal Canadian, think about finding your piece of paradise on the little exploited treasure of a city that is Victoria BC.
