What Makes Cocaine Dangerous?
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

Long ago, cocaine leaves were used by the Incas and other American Indians for thousands of years. They would either smoke, make the dried leaves into tea or juice in search of inducing a trance like state.

They find it so captivating and hypnotizing, they used it for ceremonials and rituals as well. The cocaine were considered a special kind of herbs that makes them feel strong, energetic, and having lots of stamina to do their work. Those people were able to use it wisely and for good reasons indeed. They also used it for illnesses.

This plant leaves are so powerful that it quickly stimulates the brain and all the nervous system, energizing it to do things without needing much rest or sleep! In fact it even increases ones productivity and workload.

No wonder drug addicts are so hooked by it once they start just by one puff! The stimulation is just so powerful indeed. It increases their alertness, feelings of well being, energetic, euphoria, even feelings of competency and sexuality.

Most people who have experimented with it, especially those who likes to continue taking it and all related drugs, usually will want to ask – what’s wrong with taking it? They mean to say that they liked it, so what’s wrong with having the pleasure and thrill of it? “Since we like it, why should the police forces and the government want to crack down on this? It’s so unfair.”

Well, is it unfair? Let’s go back to the history. During the 1800’s, the Spanish, the Europeans and Americans discovered the incredible usefulness of the cocaine. It was even used for cigarettes, soft drinks like Coca-Cola(this is why was called Coca, from word cocaine), and also as tonics to treat symptoms of cough, colds and other illnesses.

Only in the 1900’s, people began to notice it causes many kinds of behavioral, psychological and psychiatric problems, even death. But they also know it is very addictive. So, it was heavily banned by the government, to protect the people from the harmful effects of the drug.

So later, cigarettes have to use other kinds of plant leaves and Coca-Cola have to use other kinds of ingredients for the soft drinks.

Because it is illegal, it is being smuggled in to the United States and many other countries to continue this illegal drug trade. To stop the trade, it is now everyone’s duty to ensure our own family members and close relatives will stay away from these drugs. One of the ways to do that by discussing it quite frequently and through proper education of the dangers of these drugs.
