Two days ago a woman reported missing for the last 50 years, was found alive. Lucy Johnson was missing and assumed dead and her husband accused of murder because he did not tell police about her until 5 years after discovering her missing. Lucy Johnson, is reported missing by her husband Marvin in May of 1965. During more investigation by the police in Canada, they found that Johnson had actually been missing since September of 1961. Also, Lucy Johnson leaves behind a daughter and a son when she went missing.
Husband Accused of Murder
Because Marvin Johnson does not report his wife missing when she first leaves on September of 1961 he is accused of murdering her. He goes to the Yukon police in May of 1965 and this causes police to start a murder investigation. The investigation did not show evidence of a murder and so Marvin was never charged. Mr. Johnson died in the 1990’s which would have brought the murder case to a close anyway.
Daughter Wants Reunion with Lost Mom
When Lucy Johnson left home she left behind a daughter Linda Evans who was about 8 and a son Daniel. Evans always had hopes of seeing her mom again. The daughter saw her mom’s picture and profile information in the Canadian Police magazine of missing people monthly. This prompted Linda to again hunt for her mom.
Police and the Johnson Case
Johnson’s daughter put an ad in the Surrey British Columbia newspaper around the area her mother she was last seen. Shortly thereafter Evans received a phone call from a woman who said that this person was her mother. Linda Evans discovered that her mother still lived in the Yukon with a new family and 4 more children. Her mother is now 77 years old and living under a different name. Even though there's a lot of questions that must be answered, Evans is happy to have found her mom. In addition, the Canadian Police have left out many of the details of the case because they believe that the family needs time to get to know each other.
The Oldest Missing Persons Case in Yukon Canada
Now that Lucy Johnson has been found this is not the last oldest cases in Surrey. The case of Humphrey Wilkinson who was reported missing in 1957 is now the oldest. Wilkinson would be 84 years old now and is still on the missing person’s list.
So this missing person’s story seems to have a happy ending. Mom leaves husband and two children; she is still alive after 50 years and her husband Marvin is not accused of murder. Daughter finally meets mom 50 years later and spends time getting to know her. In addition, this missing case can finally be closed.
