A Fact Of Nutrition,proteins

Eating is one of life's pleasures, but it is also a necessity. Human beings, like all living things, depend on food for the energy that powers all the body's functions. Nutrition is the science that deals with how the body uses food to function normally and to nourish life.

The Essential Nutrients: Though Food contains many different chemicals, there are certain essential elements called nutrients that we must obtain from food to function normally. Our bodies use these nutrients for energy and growth and to heal damage tissue.

There are six main groups that are vital to the health of the human body: Proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. While all the essential nutrients help cells function normally, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats are the nutrients that supply the body with energy, which is measured in kilo calories (a unit of 1000 calories). One calorie equals the amount of heat of heat energy required to the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). Although food energy is technically describe in kilo calories it is most often expressed simply as calories.

Proteins.- Proteins are made from long chains of chemical substances known as amino acid. There are 22 different amino acids, all of wich contain carbon, oxygen, hydrogen , and nitrogen.

From these amino acids, the body can make countless different proteins. The body can make 13 of the amino acids on its own; the other 9 amino acids must be obtain from the food we eat. These are call essential amino acids.

Just as carbohydrates and fats can be used as a source of energy, so can protein. Each gram of Protein provides 4 units of energy, or calories. However,the body needs protein for several more important reasons.

Proteins are very important for the growth and repair of all body tissue. The needs for Protein is greater at certain stages of life, such as during adolesecense when a person is growing, or when a person is recovering from an illness or accident. Proteins needed to make numerous body tissue and substances, including bones, skin,organs, enzymes, antibodies, and hormones.

Human beings are able to get the protein they need from animal or plant sources. Foods from animal sources such as meat, fish, poultry, cheese, milk, and eggs, contain all the essential amino acids and so are considered complete proteins. Because these foods contain such large amounts of protein, people who eat animal products daily are more likely to eat too much protein rather than not enough.

Plants foods do not contain all the essential amino acids, so they are considered incomplete proteins. Vegetarians, people who eat plant foods rather than foods from animal sources, can still obtain adequate protein from the foods they eat.

In a vegetarian diet,food with incomplete proteins are combined in such a way that all amino acids are obtained. For example, both black beans and rice are missing different essential amino acids. Alone, each one would be an incomplete protein source, but they form a complete protein when they are combine.

In this modern times, the science in the field of nutrition, has become more expandable making the consumption of protein more accessible for vegetarians and Animal sources consumers. The introduction of supplements that can complement the daily healthy diet.

They can be from animal sources or plant, but in them, are the necessary amounts of protein , for our bodys.

A good example of this is the protein in form of powder, which can be sprinkle to our foods, or dissolve in to any liquid with out affecting the flavor of the food we eat.
