If you have followed some of my articles on Nutrition and Fitness, I have mentioned in some of them alternative methods towards healing VS Traditional Medicine. The medical field has come so very far just in the last 44 years of my nursing career. Wonderful advancements in modern medicine is saving lives daily. Doctors are continually looking for cures to some of our most dreaded diseases such as cancer and MS to mention a few. I have had patients who have had, say cancer, and had gone the realm of all treatments possible only to hear the doctor say that there is nothing more that can be done. I have seen many of these patients then turn to alternative therapies in the hopes that they will find success in them to cure whatever terminal diagnosis that has been given them.
Perhaps if we were to feed our bodies what they need by eating well-balanced meals to begin with we would have a better chance of fighting off illnesses. Just because we eat well every day it is not any guarantee that we won't get sick. So many illnesses are air born or we can pick up illnesses though touch. Many illnesses have a genetic cause. I firmly believe that if our system has been fed the right foods to begin with I think we have a better chance of staying healthy or getting over illnesses a lot sooner. We are giving our bodies a fighting chance to heal itself.
The medical profession has made such big strides in new medications to fight off diseases. Along with these medications come a long list of medication side effects and just about every medication on the market has side effects of nausea, vomiting and or diarrhea. For example: If someone is taking an antibiotic for an infection whether it be short or long-term they are likely to develop diarrhea. As I have mentioned before that while our wonderful antibiotics are taking care of our infection they are destroying all the good bacteria in our intestines, called Flora. We turn to nutrition and take a few tablespoons of yogurt with the antibiotic and it restores the Flora. Children are especially prone to this side effect. However, if one has a Lactose Intolerance then they would not want to eat yogurt.
Nutrition is essentially an alternative therapy. Along with nutrition some other forms of healthy avenues to consider are Chiropractic Medicine, Holistic Cures, Acupuncture, Stone Therapy, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Aroma Therapy, Biofeed Back, Hydrotherapy, Iridology, Yoga, Hypnotherapy, Meditation, Healing Herbs, Eastern Medicine or The Art of Chinese Healing, and Western Medicine or our Traditional Medicine in which we are used to in the United States. These are just a few, there are many more available.
I have tried some of these approaches to healing and some I have just heard about. I feel that these are all tied into Nutrition and the art of feeding our bodies the basic food groups and correct amounts of those groups.
My next several articles will be about these alternative avenues towards health and Nutrition. So stay tuned and follow me as I explain each therapy and what I find that may be of interest to you.
