B12 Vitamin Benefits

The B vitamins provide numerous health benefits for the human body. They play a key role in the body’s production of energy; maintain normal function of the nervous system; aid in the production of DNA; help digestion; give healthy eyes and vision; reduce or eliminate anemia; prevent birth defects; minimize or eliminate depression; and are good source of antioxidants. Many call B vitamins as “happy vitamins”.

Vitamin B12, also called cyanocobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that is popular to its role in converting food into energy in the body and the production of healthy red blood cells. It helps in the process of converting fats, carbohydrates, and protein into energy. People who lack vitamin B12 are easily fatigue or suffer from weak muscles and immune system. However, a deficiency in B12 is very rare because the daily amount that the body needs is small. In fact, most people consume more than the daily requirement. But you can’t have too much B12 vitamin, since your body would normally recycle the vitamin that it already absorbed or stored then use it - the rest will just come out through urine. B12 also protects myelin (a fatty material that covers our nerves) keeping the nerves healthy. It also prevents depression and minimizes or eliminates existing depression. It can also improve your appetite and keeps your white blood cells healthy to make a good immune system. Good sources of vitamin B12 are organ meats, fish, eggs, cheese, milk, lamb, bananas, kelp, and peanuts.

People who lack B12 usually suffer from so called “B12 deficiency anemia”, and the most affected are children who are usually selective eaters. The eventual effect of this type of deficiency is that the body won’t be able to produce enough red blood cells. Therefore, it is vital to encourage the children to eat a wide variety of foods as possible. If you are a vegetarian, make sure you have enough B12 in your diet. If not, taking B12 supplements would be a good option. When it comes to supplements, you may need to seek advice from your physician in choosing a good one. But B12 supplement is usually safe and economical. A daily intake of B12 will preserve the life balance of human body.

Studies have indicated that when a person grows older, his or her ability to absorb vitamin B12 decreases also, so that increasing the intake of B12 for ages 50 and above is very crucial. B12 supplements are recommended for the elderly since they can absorb it better than food intake.

Vitamin B12 is also very fundamental with weight loss, since it helps increase energy and metabolism in your body, to which your body will burn more energy naturally. This is especially essential when performing exercise routines, since it will give you energy boost to finish your workout, which in return will give you faster results.
