Bad Airline Food – Can it Kill You?

Ya, Franz here! Now this is a controversial topic. Airline food is always gotten a bad rap, but can it kill you? I saw a headline today that a 73 year old man died on an American Airline flight from New York to Miami. This event must have occurred a while back. It hit the news because a law suit has been filed against American Airlines and the purveyor of the foods that American Airlines uses to support their in-flight service. Now, anyone who has flown knows how bad airline food is! No surprise there!

But, in defense of the airlines, it’s a big task to try and serve hundreds of passengers on a long flight. Sometimes it’s not just one meal, but two on these longer oceanic flights. I have been on many long flights and have given many a thought to how the food makes its way to my tray. Now, if you have read any of my other articles you know that Franz is extremely passionate about only eating healthy foods. I don’t eat anything that even has a hint of some ingredient that I don’t know what it is. You could say that I am into nutritional science – I study how food affects the body in both good and bad ways.

Now when I fly, which now a days is non-existent because I prefer to travel by RV, but when I did I would bring my own food and water aboard the plane. As the security procedures got stricter I figured all I had to do was, after passing through security, buy something in the terminal. I figured it was still better than airline food. Then as competition in the airline industry got tight, they cut meals on a lot of flights, much to my delight. So, then I saw others doing a similar thing – avoiding bad airline food which had become a bad snack of some kind.

But, back to the poor guy who became a victim of circumstances. The cause has been determined to be a food born bacteria that was ingested from an in-flight meal that he had eaten on his previous flight from Barcelona, Spain to New York’s Kennedy Airport. Apparently, when he arrived in New York he did not feel well, but boarded his flight to Miami, and in-flight experienced cardiac arrest from this aggressive bacterium in the food, and died, so the law suit claims. Now it could be other things but it looks like the cause was pretty well narrowed down to the bad airline food that he consumed.

Regardless of the outcome of the trial, Franz advises that if you fly, take my advice and prepare ahead. If you eat in the terminal, and Subway is always a good choice, you should easily be able to make it to your destination before needing another meal. Hey, you’re just sitting around any way! If you really feel you need something aboard the plane, bring along some nuts and a bottle of water. Those are available at the airport terminal.

Ya, trust Franz here and you will feel so much better. Avoid the bad airline food, regardless of what it is! As always, I wish you vibrant health, many blessings, and a long life!
