For the best results, you should make up a batch yourself (or ask someone to make it for you). If trying to heal a cold, make the soup hot as well as spicy with lots of pepper (to your taste). The spices will cause a release of watery fluids into your mouth, throat, as well as your lungs, which will help the respiratory mucus to thin down making it more easy to expel.

Stock carries minerals in a form that the body can easily absorb —not just calcium but phosphorus magnesium, silicon, trace minerals and sulfur. It contains material that is broken down from tendon and cartilage--stuff such as glucosamine and chondroitin sulphates, which are now sold as supplements for the relief of arthritis and joint pain and are quite expensive to buy.
