Cheap Superfoods: Powerful Foods You Should Love!

There are no side effects! Now if you knew this to be true wouldn't you stock up on these foods and eat them daily? Well, Franz is here to tell you that there are cheap superfoods out there in your local grocery store that you can buy that have these effects on your body! Not only that but you can even find them when you eat out!

So what is a superfood? It is a term that describes foods that are high in phytonutrients, so much so that they have been proven to result in many health benefits. They have a hign concentration of necessary nutrients that your body needs every day to really be healthy. They are foods supplied by nature and designed to give you what your body needs every day. And Franz is not talking about taking laboratory designed supplements or anything like that. These are just cheap superfoods that will add benefit to your overall health.

So what are some of these cheap superfoods? The first is a tomato. You can find these at any salad bar, grocery store, farm stand, and you can even grow them in a pot yourself. They contain a nutrient called lycopene that has shown to offer protection against UV radiation. Tomatoes also can lower your chance of getting cancer by inhibiting the action of free radicals in your body that can damage cells and cause aging. Lutien is another phytonutrient found in tomatoes that offers benefits to the longevity of your eyes by being able to help them resist deterioration.

Another of the cheap superfoods that you should include in your daily meal plans is spinach. Spinach contains iron which aids in oxygen transport to your muscles and strengthens your nails. That helps you to be able workout longer and without damage to your muscles. Spinach also contains vitamin K, vitamin A, and manganese which offers benefits for your bones and cartilage and it boosts your body's immunity levels against disease. Next time you have a salad skip the iceberg lettuce and choose spinach instead!

The third option of the cheap superfoods is peanuts. Peanuts, and raw not roasted, offer your body healthy fats that keep you feeling full longer. They are slowly digested which helps you maintain more consistent blood sugar levels. There phytonutrient properties have shown to help fight against heart disease.

You have perhaps heard the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Well, it's still true! Apples are very low in calories and offer an abundance of fiber and powerful antioxidants that both fight against and even kill cancer cells. And the darker the skin of the apple the better.

And the last of the cheap superfoods I'll mention in this article is broccoli. This vegetable is so important in helping your body maintain strong bones. One source states that broccoli even beats out a hundred calories of whole milk for calcium content. The vitamin K in broccoli also helps bones retain calcium. With all the fiber that this phytonutrient rich vegetable contains it should always be part of your weight reducing diet. Either raw on a salad or steamed for dinner, you must eat this veggie!

Okay people, Franz has said it before and he will say it again! What you put in your body either has a positive or negative effect on your overall health and well being. The effects can either be long or short term. So next time you are out at the grocery store, fast food joint, or restaurant, take stock in what your are choosing as your meal options. I love that every item on here is a whole food. Also, these items should be eaten raw to benefit the most from it's superfood qualities. I agree with Franz, eat spinach in a salad if you don't enjoy the taste too much. I mix my salads half spinach and half romaine lettuce and it's awesome. I also substitute spinach for lettuce on sandwiches and in wraps. Cooked spinach, on the other hand, is an acquired taste, but a little olive oil, fresh garlic, and mushrooms helps. And the spinach must be fresh, or it can be bitter. Great job, Franz!

Hi Guys! Thanks the comments. My favorite way to eat spinach is in a salad. With a healthy dijon dressing and all the other veggies, including broccoli, it tastes great. Another way to eat spinach is to sautee fresh spinach in garlic and coconut oil and serve it with a lean protein. Now, if none of that sounds good how about eating some avocado instead. They are a little more expensive than spinach but also a superfood in the nutrition world. I was going for the cheaper superfoods in this article!

I used to think health foods was bunk. Now I realize what we eat and drink do affect the body. Our body functions better with healthy foods.

Some foods may be good for you but there are some things that I just refuse to eat. Spinach is one of them. i would if I was starving. Really nice article and lots of information on eating the proper foods. I should eat healthier myself but sometimes that bowl of chocolate ice cream just gets in the way. LOL.
