Coconut Oil Uses: Part 1

So you have done some research on the many benefits of extra virgin coconut oil. The next question is naturally going to be, what are some uses of coconut oil? What kinds of things can we incorporate coconut oil into to garner the benefits?

The answers here are simply endless, but I am going to give a brief overview of some coconut oil uses that my wife and I have come to use in our day to day lives. For simplicities sake, I am going to lump all of these suggestions into one of two categories, topical and culinary. This article will deal with topical uses of coconut oil, since that will probably be the most straight forward. I will be writing another article shortly that will delve into the category of culinary uses of coconut oil.

Topical Coconut Oil Uses

1. Dandruff Relief

There are numerous coconut oil uses that I have come to rely on. The first, and absolutely most miraculous use that I have found is for dandruff relief. A little bit of coconut oil as a post shampoo conditioner is all you need for a wonderfully healthy, and flake free scalp.

2. Hair Conditioner

This leads wonderfully into my second discovery about topical coconut oil uses. Within a couple of days of using our extra virgin coconut oil in the shower, I noticed that my hair was softer and shinier than it had ever been! It turns out that using the oil as a conditioner actually conditions hair better than actual conditioners!

3. Chap Stick

Another of the many uses of coconut oil is as chap stick. I actually discovered this one after I licked off a tablespoon that I had used to put some coconut oil into my morning coffee. Extra virgin coconut oil is just so delicious that sometimes my wife and I will just eat a spoonful on its own! Several hours later I noticed that my lips felt very moist and comfortable, even after a morning commute with the heater blowing in my face, followed by the constant flow of central air and fans at the office. I realized that this was due to the coconut oil from the spoon. I now just apply a little bit of oil with a finger each morning and haven't had to buy a tube of chap stick since!

4. Skin Moisturizer

The final item on my list of topical coconut oil uses is the most common. The very first thing that my wife and I learned was that coconut oil works fabulously as a skin moisturizer. Our home used to be absolutely littered with jars and tubes and bottles of every sort of lotion and cream you could imagine. Since discovering extra virgin coconut oil, we have been able to give all of those other products away and have only our large jar of coconut oil that we use for all of our skin care needs.

These are obviously only a few of many coconut oil uses. I wanted to write this article on a slightly more personal note because extra virgin coconut oil has absolutely changed my life. My wife and I use it multiple times every day and I am sure will continue finding more and more uses of coconut oil.
