Coconut Oil Uses: Part 2

If you are looking for possible uses for coconut oil, you have come to the right place! As the title suggests, this is the second of a series of articles on this topic. Please make sure you check out part 1 if you haven't already, there are so many uses that I decided to divide the information into several parts. This article will be focusing on the uses of coconut oil in a culinary capacity.

Culinary Coconut Oil Uses

When we think of the word culinary, several things might come to mind. Probably the most common thing to result from using this word is the idea of "fancy" food, or in other words high class food that none of us regular folk have a hope of ever being able to cook on our own. I have great news, coconut oil is not only a wonderfully healthy oil to consume and cook with, but it will make you seem like a genius chef when you use it! These uses of coconut oil are not only fun, but also delicious.

Coconut Shrimp

Lets discuss some of the foods that you might find at a restaurant that are always great there, but maybe you've had some trouble recreating it at home. One that comes to mind immediately for me is coconut breaded shrimp, an appetizer that a lot of fine dining establishments have on the menu. You have probably gotten as far as putting shredded coconut in your breading, but in traditional lay cooking style, you maybe used vegetable oil, or perhaps olive oil or peanut oil to fry them. Well this is obviously a no-brainer, go ahead and fry those babies up in coconut oil and see what happens. You honestly will never go back when you add this to your list of coconut oil uses.

Sauteed Vegetables

How about sauteing vegetables to go with whatever meal you are putting together for company tonight? What kind of oil are you going to use for this? The answer here is almost always vegetable or olive oil. Olive oil certainly holds a dear place in my heart for this type of dish, but use coconut oil and you won't hear the end of the compliments and people asking for your recipe. My wife added this to our coconut oil uses for vegetables just because it adds such a nice new dimension to the flavor.

Elusive Asian Dishes

Probably the most memorable coconut oil uses that I have come up with involved meat, especially chicken. Have you ever been eating at an Asian restaurant, especially some of the island nationalities, and wondered how they go about making their food so flavorful? One of the answers to this simply involves a difference in the spices that are indigenous to those areas. The other answer as I am sure you can guess by now is that these nations have a LOT of uses of coconut oil in their cooking. I still remember the first night I cooked up some chicken breast in extra virgin coconut oil, spicing it with a little bit of red pepper, salt, and black pepper, then put it on a bed of spinach. Don't you know it tasted like a dish straight from a Thai kitchen. The next time I made the same dish but made a sauce with curry powder and coconut milk and it was exactly like a medium spiced coconut curry dish.

Simple But Sweet!

Coconut oil uses can also be significantly less involved. Take for example my morning coffee which now includes a tablespoon of coconut oil. This is like any other flavor shot that you might put into a coffee drink with the delightful bonus that it's good for you! The uses of coconut oil in your cooking can even extend to using it as a salad dressing or as the base for a salad dressing. You can even make your own homemade mayonnaise using coconut oil as the base.

Conclusion

The uses of coconut oil are infinite and really up to your own creativity as to how much you use it. Personally, I use it every chance that I get. Coconut oil uses are so prolific that you could literally use it in everything that you eat! Assuming you don't really want to do that, the uses of coconut oil can at least be fun to experiment with and come up with new favorite dishes and snacks.

So we have discussed coconut oil uses in terms of skin and hair care as well as in culinary terms. The uses of coconut oil are limitless, and as such, coconut oil uses also span into the realm of personal wellness. In my next article I will discuss the uses of coconut oil that can affect your overall physical as well as mental health. As you can imagine, these coconut oil uses will not be something you will want to miss!
