Complete List Of Superfoods

It seems we get asked this question an awful lot. What are the complete list of Superfoods? First things first. What is a superfood? A good working definition of superfood is a food that has high phytonutrient content and that has very real health benefits to the body. Phytonutrients are simply chemical compounds found largely in plants that are beneficial to the body.

Understanding superfoods, and incorporating them into the diet is an endeavor that everyone needs to take seriously. Why? Because the Standard American Diet (SAD) is the primary reason why disease and obesity are becoming epidemic in this country.

Compiling a complete list of Superfoods is daunting because there really isn’t a complete list of superfoods that everyone agrees on. Dr. Oz has his list; Dr. Weil has a different list; Dr. Mercola has his list and so on and so forth.

However, that being said, one can identify a list of foods that pretty much everyone agrees on. Below is a fairly good-sized list of superfoods that are organized in categories.

I’m sure I’ve left some out. I’m sure I’ll get some firm rebukes. A complete list of superfoods is a little idealistic but I think this list at the very least, is a good representation.

When trying to incorporate superfoods in the diet, people tend to get overwhelmed. Luckily, many of the most important superfoods are foods that we eat every day. For instance, blueberries are perhaps one of the single healthiest foods on planet Earth, and, are available everywhere.

Broccoli and spinach, carrots and oranges… these are some of the most common foods we eat. So don’t beat yourself up too bad if you went a day without taking a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar or if you went to sleep without getting your daily dose of Nori. The important thing is to adopt a mindset –a lifestyle – of embracing foods that have medicinal value -superfoods.

In the age we live in, we all worship the false god of convenience. Heck, we’re busy right? The fast foods, commercially processed foods, soft drinks, sugar waters, sadly, the food that was intended to provide life, healing, sustenance, has become the very thing that’s making us sick.

For those that find eating fresh superfoods too challenging, perhaps superfood supplements in the form of powders and even superfood drinks are a good option. There are many excellent superfood supplements that are an excellent way to incorporate these into the diet in a very convenient and inexpensive way.
