Curb Food Cravings: Eat These Foods!

The toughest thing for a person who desperately needs to lose weight is to have to face a diet knowing there will nagging food cravings. It is especially tough for those people who are addicted to sugary foods (processed carbs: cookies, crackers, snack foods, candy, etc.)! If you eat a lot of sugar, you want more and more. The reason your body does that is when it does not receive proper nutrition, your brain sends signals to tell you that you need more food. Your body is hoping that eventually it will get something that it is looking for: healthy proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Therefore, curb food cravings and eat these foods!

I want you to consider these foods: eggs, wild Alaskan salmon, berries, oatmeal, dark chocolate, nut butters, and avocados. These foods are loaded with healthy unsaturated and monounsaturated fats that your body desperately needs every day! Your diet should consist of around twenty percent healthy fats. In a 2000 calorie diet, that’s four hundred calories. You should have a little healthy fat with each meal to feel satiated and curb food cravings.

When the only thing you eat is processed carbs and sugary foods, your body feels satiated for a little while, but once the sugar high subsides, and the excess sugar is stored away as fat, you will feel hungry again, and for more sugary foods. It may only take an hour or two for this to happen. When you eat a balanced meal of protein, carbs, and fats, you will be satiated much longer and therefore eliminate cravings while dieting. So, curb food cravings and don’t eat processed carbs and other sugary foods.

Avocados are such a good healthy fat, one that has vital nutrients that will kill stored fat and keep you full for hours. You only need an ounce or two to do the job. Nut butters like almond butter and peanut butter have beneficial monounsaturated fats that your body’s cells need. This food does a great job of fending off the hunger pangs. Be sure to buy nut butters that are from unroasted nuts, and without salt and sugar. Franz has to buy them at natural grocers to get the good stuff!

Eggs are the best way to start the day! They are loaded with beneficial nutrients for your body: high quality protein, loaded with vitamins and minerals, and beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. Be sure these are from an organic source to get the benefit of this food. If they come from facilities that mass produce them, they will not have all these good benefits that you are looking for. In fact they are harmful: high in omega-6 fats instead of the beneficial omega-3’s.

Dark chocolate, 70% or better, is a great antioxidant! The best brands are those that organic and not loaded with any kind of added unhealthy fats and sugars. There is a natural fat burner in this food named theobromine that helps increase the fat burning process that occurs in the body. Just have a few squares on your cheat day to reward yourself for a week of great gains!

Oatmeal is loaded with fiber and sticks with you for hours, and it stabilizes blood sugar levels. If you added a few drops of stevia and sprinkle on cinammon, you have a delicious breakfast or snack. You can even throw in a few raspberries or black berries, another food loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber.

Don’t forget to have some wild Alaskan salmon once a week! Here’s a great protein source that is also loaded with omega-3’s. Have this as an evening meal, along with some veggies, and you have a healthy meal that will keep you satisfied till morning.

The trick to curb food cravings is to fashion meals that are balanced, and that force the body to produce a specific response. Meals that have a portion of healthy lean protein, natural carbohydrates, and healthy fats will stabilize blood sugar levels, give you maximum energy for the food eaten, and curb food cravings for hours.
