Eat Right for Your Type

This is something that has been talked about and tossed around for several years, and frankly, is still confusing and controversial, maybe even more so then when the idea first surfaced. How do you eat right for your type? What is your starting point, what food selections, and how much should one eat?

To muddy the waters even more, activity levels, environmental exposure, and personal habits all have to be considered. Eating right for your type (defining exactly what your body needs and giving it to it) could be the most life challenging thing a person ever does, but several issues must be understood and dealt with before the journey can begin.

Information Overload

The biggest issue that anyone faces is the overwhelming amount of information available out there. 100's of diets available, that all work to some degree, all claiming that they are the end all. Typically, these diets have a focus on a particular stress that affects the system in some way, forcing a response (normally weight loss, but indirectly could affect other things). These tend to be extremely effective in the short term, but normally have a haphazard exit strategy, if they have one at all. Longevity is an issue and leads one to great results, then a yo yo effect. Frustrations develop because you're back your where you were (or maybe even worse), and you blame yourself. Then it's on to the next diet. Which leads us to our next issue.

Are your Goals Self Defeating

Think on this for a moment. Typically when a person decides to start an aggressive program there is an ulterior motive involved, and normally it has nothing to do with health or wellness. More times then not, it will have to do with getting into a certain outfit for an occasion, getting to a number on a scale, or trying to get a reflection to LOOK right. Short term focuses will only put out short term fires. Once goals are reached, there is no drive to continue on. Old habits slip in, which leads to that yo yo again. These old habits could very well be our next big issue.

Mans Greatest Invention - Processed Foods

To clarify, this is the prepared foods that are available. This would include all of the canned, sealed, or bagged items. Preservation methods extend's shelf life by killing off any pathogens, then adding natural & artificial flavors, preservatives, enhancements, and food colorings to keep it looking like real food. It has a long shelf life, is easy to prepare, and typically has a taste profile that we have been trained to think is good.

Because of the way food is processed, it still has a high caloric value, but almost no nutrient value. Natural enzymes are destroyed which is literally the life force energy (they either accelerate or are required in millions of different metabolic processes in the body). There are some fairly alarming stats are being linked to the additives used in most processed foods (nutritional enhancements have zero bio-availability, preservatives are being linked to liver and gall-balder issues, and food dyes are being labeled as carcinogenic just to name a few).

All food is 'prepared' to some degree, and depending on how intrusive the preparation is, dictates what nutritive value those foods will contain. Raw, juiced, or frozen foods have almost all of their original enzyme activity, while cooked, microwaved and fried foods will have form 50 to 100% loss depending on the length of prep time. If you consider this with the fact that most commercial foods produced today have between 60 to 80% less mineral levels then they did 60 to 70 years ago (WWII), a fairly bleak picture starts to emerge.

So how do you Eat Right for Your Type?

Knowing what you're up against is the first part. Then knowing what your baseline numbers are is the second. There are several different ways to identify your starting point, and our preferred method is a Hair Trace Mineral Analysis or an HTMA because:

  • Its very easy to use (in the comfort of your home and only needs a few clips of hair)
  • Takes a broader look (will look at base mineral levels for the past 90 to 180 days) which is needed for long term nutritional balancing.
  • Paints a vivid picture of exactly whats going on internally

A test like this identifies nutritional mineral levels and ratios, heavy metals, and can even define your specific metabolic category. Once you have this information, protocols can be put in place to balance your internal picture, allowing the body to do its job. Some nutritional supplementation , and sourcing food locally to get a higher quality staple may be required, but the upside (brain fog clears, aches and pains disappear, bloat decreases and rashes go away) is massive.

Street Talk

I noticed some comments from people who lost weight simply by avoiding processed foods. I am avoiding those foods on the Harcombe Diet. However, I had to make some other changes - avoiding sugar, avoiding refined flour, and now I am looking into possible food intolerance. I lost approximately 10 pounds so far, and I recently lost three pounds on Phase 2. I don't have the mood changes anymore. The idea of adjusting the diet to individual needs make sense. The Harcombe Diet is working for me.

I've read a bit about blood type diets but don't really know if it has scientific basis. Can you send in a hair sample for HTMA or does it have to collected in a more sanitary way?

It can be done at home. As for blood type diets .. Im not a fan. But then again I am not really a fan of much of anything. ID whats out of balance, put together a program to get your body in balance, then keep it there while it restores and rejuvenate itself. It really is that simple.

Understanding your starting point makes complete sense - I recently watched a program on TV where two celebrity chefs who were over weight undertook a 3 month challenge to lose 3 stones. This was achieved. Firstly, they were given medicals to understand their starting points and needs, then reduced their calorie intake by adjusting traditional recipes (sometimes calorific recipes) in healthy ways. The point was that with a little planning you can still eat the foods that you like, lose weight and get healthy. This healthier eating was combined with increased levels of exercise, mainly walking and cycling. A group of people did the same things and all lost weight and felt better after doing so.

For a true long term change, everything has to be addressed - eating well, moving well, and thinking well, but none of it matters without a starting point. Thanks:)

This makes a lot more sense than any diet I have ever heard of. I have watched people do the yo-yo thing my whole life and even got wrapped up in it myself. It was not until I quit eating processed food that I started losing weight and I have lost more than 90 pounds in the past year!. I am hungry anymore and I never have cravings either. As I've said before when you give your body what it needs it stops craving the junk and garbage that it not good for you.

The key to it all is the processed foods. Just get rid of it completely. It sucks to have to prepare every meal yourself, but it is so worth it in the long run! Getting there is a big easier for some people outside of the US simply because the food they have available at its base has a higher nutritive level.

Good info Wayne, surprisingly how simple an analysis can actually save people a fortune in dietary products that actually don't work... just eat right and lose... since we have been with my Daughter, who eats and feeds her family correctly I have lost 20 kg ( 44lbs.) without stopping my chocolates or cakes that I also enjoy. Just eating a planned correct diet with all that the body should get has done this.. I also find I eat smaller portions and find myself fully satisfied after the meal... simple actually.

It takes all of the guess work out and makes it easy to develop a plan on getting in balance. You are doing exactly what needs to be done - just start living right and everything takes care of itself. Bravo my friend!
