Flip A Coin To Determine If You\'ll Become Diabetic

Fifty-percent chance. That's what the statistics say. In fact, in my ongoing research, I have even seen higher percentages out there as well. Remember, diabetes is not just those who are taking insulin (more on that word later). Nowadays, most consider you pre-diabetic with two, fasting glucose readings in the 110-120 range. Do you know what your glucose reading is? The kits you can buy now are great and they are inexpensive. You can take it any time of day but the standard for accuracy is taking the test while fasting for eight – ten hours. Ideally, you want to be in the high eighties. Let’s not talk about blood sugar but rather insulin. They actually go hand in hand.

Having said that, it never cease to amaze me how few physicians include your blood insulin level in a basic blood test. Perhaps the reason for this is that insurance companies do not pay for it. Do you know your blood insulin level? I really think you should find out. The normal range on a standard blood test is 4-24, the lower the better. Anything over 10 is not good.

I have achieved a low score because I engage in a consistent, high level of exercise and I really work to control my sugar intake, not fanatically, but I simply concentrate on minimizing sugar consumption. My glucose is 87 while fasting, another good level due to the same reasons. Another helpful component and something you should get tested is your triglycerides, which should be below 100. These three items will give you a great snap-shot on your disposition for diabetes.

So what is insulin and how does it work? Produced in the pancreas, insulin is a digestive hormone that, among other things, regulates the glucose level in your blood. Sugars, refined grains, and processed foods all shoot your glucose sky high. In due time, your pancreas wears out and can no longer bail you out. It is at this point you have to add insulin to preserve healthy glucose levels. In other words, this is when you become diabetic. Ultimately, you become dependant on the insulin, and you are subject to its efficacy.

The problem that most people have is eating sugar that they are unaware of. So many of our commercial foods today are loaded with high-fructose corn syrup which is, you guessed it, sugar. Even foods that are marketed as “healthy” foods are loaded with high fructose corn syrup. So become a label hawk. Your body will thank you.

Diabetes can be prevented and combated naturally. The Atkins Diet and similar diets have really helped a lot of people. Atkins has been tremendously beneficial in lowering insulin levels; however, the challenges with the diet are not eating enough fresh foods, and eating too much of overcooked meats from toxic animals. If you do this, monitor your glucose and insulin closely, as the insulin you are taking may need to be dropped.

Reducing artificial sweeteners and refined grains also helps, which of course, are all part of the Atkins diet. Exercise also plays a key role in preventing diabetes. Everyone should engage in some kind of consistent exercise program.

One of the best applications is of course eating dark-green, leafy veggies. Better yet, is to try eating organic vegetables but this is not always so easy. What many people are doing to help fill-the-gap in their lacking diets, is turning to a high-quality superfood greens powders. If you choose a good one, these can be a terrific way to make sure you are getting all the nutrition from vegetables, but in a convenient powder form. Dark-green, water-rich vegetables are one of the best ways to prevent diabetes known to man.

So, please, get your blood levels checked, compare the numbers with those in this article and take action today. Diabetes is no fun.
