Are you having trouble finding easy Gluten Free snacks for your toddler? Are you not sure what to buy or where to get Gluten Free foods your child can eat? When you first discover that your child has Celiac Disease, it can be very difficult to know where to start with his or her diet. My wife and I had this problem when we found out our son has Celiac.
Just recently, grocery stores and even Wal-Mart are starting to realize the demand for Gluten Free foods. Some of the larger grocery store chains in my area have dedicated gluten free sections. I found a Wal-Mart that also has this (not sure if they all do yet). My local Target does not have a dedicated section but they do sell a GF Mac & Cheese and it is much cheaper than you can find anywhere else. Target recently started carring gluten free waffles. It is about 2 dollars less than at the grocery store.
There are stores that specialize in foods that don't contain gluten but usually are expensive. However, you can find items that you won't find anywhere else. You will probably need to shop at a few different places to get what you need and to save money. Online gluten free grocery stores are a good place to shop since they offer a huge variety.
If you are having trouble thinking of some gluten free snacks for your toddler, here are some ideas:
* Yoplait Yogurt (most yogurts might be GF but Yoplait states it on the label).
* Block Cheese. Some shredded cheeses can contain gluten. They can have an ingredient that keeps the cheese from sticking together so you need to check on this.
* Cheese Roll Up. Shred your own cheese and melt in a corn tortilla. Use Pace Salsa for added flavor.
* Fruity Pebbles Cereal Bars. Fruity Pebbles cereal is free of gluten and so are their cereal bars. This is a cheap snack since it is not a specialty item and can be found almost anywhere.
* Skippy peanutbutter on celery or apples. I believe most brands of peanutbutter are safe but Skippy advertises it on their website.
* Fruit Roll Ups. Betty Crocker labels these gluten free on the front of the box.
* Hormel Chili.
* Lays "Stax" chips.
These are just a few gluten free snacks for your toddler. Food manufacturers and grocery stores are starting to realize that many adults and children suffer from Celiac Disease and are offering more foods that do not contain gluten.
Get your child started today on a gluten free diet.
