Gogi Berry Benefits For Your Health And Wellness

Goji berries are popping up all over health food stores, in green teas, smoothies and super nutrition drinks. I read about them in an alternative healing book, but finally did some research into the benefits of goji berries when my Chinese acupuncturist told me that I should start drinking goji berry juice. It takes recommendations from multiple people to convince me that a product is worth my time.

Goji berries are indeed loaded with antioxidants just like blueberries and cranberries. Research has shown that eating berries that are filled with antioxidants and other powerful compounds may help prevent cancer and other illnesses, including heart disease. It is well known that antioxidants have the ability to boost the immune system as well as lower cholesterol. For some people that alone is reason enough to add them to your diet.

However, the goji berry benefits do not end there. Goji berries could also help prevent aging. They are the berry with the highest antioxidant content. Antioxidants minimize damage from free radicals. Free radicals can injure cells and damage the DNA. If a cell's DNA changes, the cell will grow abnormally. Antioxidants remove the damaging effect of free radicals. As they do this, antioxidants reduce the risk of some serious diseases.

In addition to the high antioxidant content, goji berries also contain vitamin A, which has great anti-aging properties as well. Special compounds within vitamin A help protect vision, increase immune function and may even help prevent heart disease.

There are some studies that suggest using goji berry juice benefits your mental well being, increases calmness, enhances athletic performance, improves your quality of sleep, and increases feelings of good health. Many of these studies are preliminary and more evidence is needed to confirm the actual goji berry benefits to your health. However, goji berries are all natural and will not harm your body. With the amount of reported health benefits, I felt like it was a superfood worth adding to my diet.

In traditional Chinese medicine, goji berries are believed to enhance the immune function, protect the liver, increase sperm production, improve eyesight and increase blood circulation. They are thought to act on the liver, kidney and lung meridians and enrich yin.

Goji berry benefits are so great due to the nutrient content. Goji berries contain vitamin A, C, B1, B2, antioxidants, amino acids and other minerals. The companies that market goji berries claim that they contain the nutrients isoleucine, tryptophan, zinc, iron, copper, calcium, germanium, selenium, phosphorus, B6 and vitamin E. Health benefits of goji berries are reported by some to be seen immediately. However, for best results, you should probably use over a period of time.
