How Can Herbs And Spices Benefit Your Health Part 2

I’m going to continue my article series about how your health can benefit from herbs and spices. Today we have come to the beautiful and brilliant spice Turmeric. This spice has shown to be a wonder food with the added bonus of tasting good. Needless to say that I love it and that I try to get a good pinch of turmeric through my diet every day.

In India turmeric has been used for a long time closer to 2500 years to be exact, in the beginning they used it as a dye. Curcumin is the active ingredient in Turmeric.

Lucky for us the medicinal talents of this spice have slowly revealed themselves over the years. We have known for a long time about its anti-inflammatory properties, but recent research has revealed that turmeric is a fantastic spice which has shown to work wonders in the treatment of many different health conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and even cancer.

Here are a bunch of brilliant and some surprising benefits of turmeric:

• Antibacterial and antiseptic, which means you can use it for disinfecting cuts and burns.

• Prevents prostate cancer and stops the growth of existing prostate cancer when eaten in conjunction with colliflower.

• Prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to kill themself.

• Reduces the risk of childhood leukemia.

• Detoxifies the liver.

• Prevents and slows the progression of Alzheimer's.

• Prevents metastases from happening in many different forms of cancer.

• It is a strong anti-inflammatory that works as well as many of the drugs that exist and are being prescribed but without the nasty side effects.

• Has shown promise in slowing the progression of MS in mice.

• Is a natural painkiller.

• Helps metabolism, brilliant for weight management and weight loss.

• Has been used in Chinese medicine for a long time as a treatment for depression. A new study thats just been released shows that turmeric is both safe and effectiv in treating serious states of depression.

• Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

• It helps to boost the effects of chemo drug paclitaxel and reduces its side effects.

• There is some studies going on that is showing good results on the effects of turmeric on pancreatic cancer.

• Studies are ongoing in the positive effects of turmeric on multiple myeloma.

• Turmeric has been shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors.

• Speeds up the healing of wounds and assists in remodeling of damaged skin.

• Helps in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

• There is more than 100 studies made documenting curcumin’s ability to protect, and in some cases restore brain function.

Once you start using turmeric on a regular basis, you will discover different and new ways of using it in with all kinds of foods. My favorite way to use it is to add a pinch of it to salad dressings or in my omelets. It’s tasty and gives the meals a beautiful rich yellow color.
