So, you need to learn how to eat gluten free. Whether you were just diagnosed with celiac or are just looking to eliminate some harmful gluten products from your diet, completely eliminating gluten from your life can at first seem like a very daunting task. Even if you don't have celiac there are many reasons why you may want to consider eating gluten free. For one, many people who don't have celiac are still gluten sensitive. The number of humans who are sensitive to gluten products is estimated from anywhere from 10% to as high as 70%. Furthermore, refined wheat, which has become a cornerstone to many of our diets, has little to no nutritional value whatsoever.
If you live alone or your entire household is going gluten free than this makes your task a little easier. In this case you want to first eliminate all gluten products from your home, along with any products that may have been contaminated such as a peanut butter jar that has been eaten out of with a knife that you had also used to cut a gluten product, such as a bagel or a cake. The next step is self-consciousness and determination.
Many of you however may live in a household where one or more of your family members continue to eat gluten. In this case, learning how to eat gluten free may seem even more difficult. However, I have a few strategies that may help you out. First, label any communal food that you don't want to be contaminated with gluten as "gluten free." This will remind your family members that this jar of peanut butter or cooking pan should not be contaminated with any gluten products whatsoever. Also try to organize the food cupboards in a way that separates the gluten products from the gluten-free products.
When you start out, the task of going through each nutrition label on processed foods may also seem daunting. My recommendation is that you start out by concentrating on unprocessed meats, fruits, and vegetables. By taking this route you are ensuring that you will not have gluten in your diet and the unprocessed foods are actually healthier.
There are also many local support groups for those with celiac or looking to go gluten free. At these groups you can meet people who are in similar situations and you can learn some ideas of how to best succeed in eating gluten free. Oftentimes finding people who have gone through what you are going through can be a major confidence builder and can help you find the best recipes or additions to the grocery list.
As you continue on the path of ridding gluten from your diet, you will learn your own tricks and tips that work best for you. The gluten-free living style is still new so be sure to share what works for you with others in the community.
There is a lot of other information about what to put on your gluten free grocery list available on the web. Getting used to the diet and trying all different types of gluten free food is imperative to succeeding in living the gluten free lifestyle. The gluten free grocery list can be a great asset in helping you as you strive towards this success.
