What is High Blood Pressure?
How do you deal with it? HBP ( High Blood Pressure) is also known as hypertension. Hypertension is caused by an increase of pressure in the arteries. This disease has been labled by doctors as " The silent killer ". A frightening majority of HBP sufferers do not even know that they suffer from the disease.
Someone suffering from HBP may not notice the warning signs because they are so subtle. Headaches, dizziness, anxiet, nose bleeds, shortness of breath are all symptoms of HBP. However not everyone who suffers from HBP will have all the symptoms or even several, without regular monitoring or visiting their family doctor a victim of HBP may go undiagnosed for several years.
If you suffer from any one or more of these symptoms visit your doctor immediately. If you are diagnosed with HBP discuss all your treatment options with your physician including a diet and exercise regimen. Diet and exercise are two key elements in reducing and managing high blood pressure.
The first step to modifying your diet is to include more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. The second step is to reduce your salt intake. The third step is when preparing your meals choose to broil, boil, steam or grill your meats and vegetables using salt substitutes or Celtic salt ( a kosher salt ) is recommended by more doctors as a healthier alternative to iodized table salt.
When choosing your meat it is recommended that you avoid pork as it is higher in calories. Also the preparation of pork usually includes the use of butter, and salt which add to the effects of high blood pressure.Doctors, Scientist and Researches have been studying a new diet plan, which really isn't new. The Paleo diet plan comes from ( Paleolithic ) which is believed to be the diet that our Paleolithic ancestors consumed.
In no way should you begin any diet without first consulting your physician to ensure that it will be safe and meet all your dietary requirements. A physician approved exercise program is just as important in the reduction and management of high blood pressure as diet.
The combination of a modified diet and exercise plan can significantly reduce your high blood pressure. Some have even controlled their high blood pressure so effectively in this manner that they were able to reduce their dosage and strength of medication required. Another key factor in blood pressure management is regular monitoring of your blood pressure and consultation with your physician regarding any changes needed in diet, exercise and medication.
High Blood Pressure is not curable but it is treatable and manageable with proper diagnosis and treatment.
