Increase Brain Power And Brain Memory

Memory is what defines our everyday existence. We recall ideas in the present with our short-term memory while we store past events and learned meanings in our long-term memory. What's more, memory does not work perfectly and tends to decay with age. As we grow older, it may take longer to retrieve information stored in our memory. It is normal to forget things once in a while and there are several tips on how to increase brain power and brain memory and to promote a healthy brain in general.

Brain Foods to Enhance Memory and Brain Power

Diet plays a major role in brain health and memory. The best foods help to boost memory and brain function by encouraging good flow of blood to the brain. In fact there are various studies that link certain foods with better cognitive function, alertness and memory.

Enhance Your Memory With These Brain Foods

Vegetables

Getting adequate vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli and dark leafy greens, may help to improve your memory. You can try out kale salads or a green smoothie for your next snack. Adding broccoli to your lunch or dinner is also a great idea.

Berries and Cherries

Berries, especially those dark ones such as cherries, blueberries and blackberries, are rich in anthocyanins and other minerals that may boost memory function. Enjoy a few berries as a snack or mix it into your breakfast cereal.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega3 fatty acids may improve memory in healthy young adults. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in particular, is the most abundant fatty acid in the brain. With higher levels of DHA in the blood, the brain is able to operate more efficiently. Some of the best sources include seafood, algae and fatty fish such as sardines, herring, Bluefin tuna and salmon. To get a healthy dose, you can substitute fish for meat a couple of times in a week. Alternatively, you can discuss supplementation with a registered dietitian especially if you don't eat fish. Omega 3 fatty acids can be obtained from seaweed, fish oil and microalgae supplements.

Walnuts

Walnuts are also known to help improve your memory in addition to having a positive impact on your heart health. The next time that midday hunger strikes, snack on a handful of walnuts or add them to your salad for crunch.

Exercise Improves Memory

Exercise helps thinking and memory through both direct and indirect ways. The benefits come directly from its ability increase oxygen to your brain and reduce inflammation, reduce insulin resistance and stimulate the release of growth factors- chemicals in the brain that affect the health of brain cells, the growth of new blood vessels in the brain as well as the abundance and survival of new brain cells. This reduces the risk of disorders that may lead to memory loss such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Indirectly, exercise helps by improving mood and sleep, and reduce stress and anxiety. These are problems that frequently cause or contribute to cognitive impairment.

Sleep Improves Memory

Several research studies have linked sleep to improved memory. One such study showed that deep or slow-wave sleep was necessary for memory formation. During deep sleep, the brain replays activities from earlier on in the day. More recent studies have also found that sleep promotes new connections between neurons. This means that the brain is not quiet during sleep but it is replaying events that happened during the day.

Brain Exercise Through Brain Games

Playing brain games such as puzzles and crosswords can improve memory and reduce brain decline. One common explanation for this is that it activates synapses in the whole brain, including the memory areas. A study in 2011 showed that participants who played a particular computer game for six years improved their concentration so much that they has a 50% lower rate of car accidents. Brain exercise is as important to the brain as physical exercise is to the body.

Natural Herbs and Nutrients that Improve Memory

Gingko Biloba

For thousands of years, Gingko biloba leaves have been a common treatment in Chinese medicine. It is currently used in supplements round the world to help improve memory. Gingko acts as an antioxidant and also improves the flow of blood to the brain.

St John's Wort

It contains a number of potential active ingredients such as hypericin and that might reduce the body's amounts of a certain protein related to immune function, or block the normal reabsorption of a chemical referred to as serotonin.

Glutamine

The active amino acid works through chemical conversions in different parts of the body and protein synthesis to stimulate the occurrence of healthy reactions. This empowers the mind and improves memory. It also removes the accumulation of ammonia and nitrogen in the blood that ultimately affect brain function.

Vinpocetine

By facilitating cerebral metabolism and improving blood flow to the brain, vinpocetine is a powerful memory enhancer. It works by causing mild dilation of blood vessels, allowing for increased cerebral blood flow. This results in better glucose utilization and increased oxygenation.

There are plenty of different brain power supplements in the market that can help to improve your memory. One supplement in particular is called Cognimaxx and contains many of the herbs and nutrients listed above. The secret is to conduct your own research and learn as much as you can about how to increase brain memory and brain power naturally.
