Magic Soup

First the bad news

The worrying thing is, that now there are all sorts of claims about magic soup in particularly the ingredient of cabbage as being responsible and capable of burning fat, which there is simply no scientific evidence for these claims. If soup had a fat burning quality then surely it would be manufactured as being some kind of magic soup on the product itself. Also if there was truth to the claim that soup burned fat then it would be widely published and recognised as such and that is not the case at all.

Common sense shows us that soup or any other food cannot claim to have the ability to burn fat without telling us all how it actually does this? But yet the gullible weight loss seeking of us all, are seemingly duped into believing such wild claims.

Soup has often figured in diets in some form or other but mainly because of its low calories. Soup diets have not always been popular and have been more punitive rather than being enjoyable in any way. Think of the cabbage soup diet, even the very name is enough to want to restrict your intake of soup.

A soup diet alone that restricts healthy nutrients and promotes just one type of food such as the cabbage soup diet is basically a poor dietary choice for weight loss. Whilst this sort of faddy diet will claim that a good weight loss can be achieved whilst taking part in its programme; it is most unlikely to be sustained after stopping it.

The good news

There was a major scientific research study that was undertaken and is recognised as having proven results. In the controlled experiment different groups of people were given different food choices. Some of them were given a solid meal and one group were given soup. The results showed that the people who had the soup reported that they had feelings of fullness for up to an hour and a half longer than the people who ate a solid meal. These results therefore showed that soup as part of a weight loss diet can help with weight loss.

So let’s be clear about soup. It can be an aid to weight loss because it has been scientifically proven to keep your stomach full for longer than, when eating a solid meal. This means that your stomach becomes stretched with the volume of the soup and gives you a feeling of being full for longer and helps to keep the hunger pangs at bay. Great! but remember, nothing to do with fat burning.
