Organic Milk Vs Regular Milk

Are you trying to make a decision: organic milk vs. regular milk? If the cost was the same I would say it would be an easy choice of organic milk. The costly organic milk stops people from getting it though. Is it worth the extra money?

I have to be honest before I had kids I was drinking any milk, but now when I have my two little ones, I get the organic milk. Why, well here are a few benefits of the organic milk.

1. No artificial hormones – to be classified as organic milk the farmers are not allowed to give their cows the synthetic hormone, rBGH, recombinant bovine growth hormone or rBST recombinant bovine somatotropin.

The reason farmers give their dairy cows these artificial hormones is to make their cows more productive. These artificial hormones has been associated with diseases like cancer. The hormones are also banned in many other countries, hopefully we will see this banned in the US as well.

2. Antibiotics and pesticides can also show up in your regular milk, but not in your organic milk since it is forbidden with the USDA certified dairy cows. The USDA dairy cows are only allowed to eat certified organic feed.

3. Long shelf life of organic milk – since the organic milk is sterilized at a very high temperature, it also last longer than regular milk. So if you keep your milk for a while the organic milk might actually save you some money in the long run.

Organic milk vs regular milk, what about the taste of it? Personally I prefer the taste of organic milk, my kids does too. Our neighbour kid that I would think drink regular milk at home came over ones and said, can we please have milk your milk taste much better than ours at home. Cute kid and it showed me a nother example of that kids like organic milk.

When it comes to both regular milk and organic milk there are so many brands to chose from. So how do you know which one to pick, well you can check out our organic milk reviews but your best bet is to try different kinds of milk until you find your favorite.

So what are the cons with organic milk or should I say pro for regular milk? Well if you are on a tight budget the organic products and the organic milk can be costly. I know in our family we go through probably 4 - 5 gallons of milk each and every week. The organic milk is about $3 more expensive than regular milk so that adds another $12 – 15 weekly to the grocery bill. Is it worth it to you?

Organic milk vs regular milk, this is a decision that you and your family only can make.

I'd like to hear what you think about dairy substitutes like soy milk or rice milk. many nutritionists are telling people to avoid the dairy fat all together organic or other wise. Just so you know I am just asking out of curiosity, I grew up on a dairy farm, and I love cheese and ice cream but I have went to drinking soy milk the past few years just because my wife is lactose intolerant.

I do believe that soy milk and rice milk are good for some people, you are talking about lactose intolerant then these choices are excellent. I don`t believe at all to avoid dairy fat all together. There are lots of great nutritions in dairy products that we need both as chldren and adults. I grew up drinking milk with every meal, today I give my children the choice of milk or water, in our house we chose dairy products.

You're right Veronica, fats from dairy, in moderation of course, are good for us. I've been reading about why some people are lactose intolerant, and that is because the processing of milk at high temperatures that kills harmful bacteria, also kills off the good enzymes that help our bodies to break it down and digest it. Not everyone is intolerant, of course, but many are. I have consumed fresh raw unprocessed milk many times from my grandpas dairy years ago, and even more recently, but my brother consistently does for the health benefits, without ill effects. He get's it from a Mennonite family about an hour down the road. They just raised their price to $5 per gallon.

They have it ALL wrong. It's not the good fats (omega 6's) that are bad for us, it's the sugars, but especially the artificial sweeteners like High fructose corn syrup, and the carcinogenic chemical sweeteners like aspartame, that is causing inflammation and most of the diseases (heart, diabetes, obesity, etc). Yes, aspartame contributes to diabetes and obesity also. Our bodies need good fats, and minimize the bad ones, omega-3's, but we need to eliminate the chemical sweeteners, and greatly reduce the processed ones.

Anything in North America with soy in it, is genetically modified. Avoid it, as it's Not healthy for you.
