Many people are turning to what nature intended as far as their diets are concerned. A raw food diet is no longer just some fad that was started by some Californian health fanatics; it is actually something that is being adopted by the mainstream public. Many people have adopted the diet because they have seen the immense benefits that can be reaped by people who stick to the diet. Some of these benefits include a reduced chance of developing many life threatening diseases such as cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Many studies have been carried out by many leading universities in the world on raw food diets. A recent study by the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom revealed that 98% of people who went on a raw food diet and stuck with it five years ago have not suffered from any illness since then and 90% of people who started a raw food diet a year ago have not suffered from any illness since then.

These stats are remarkable and reasoning and science seem to back them up also. The truth is, and many people know this, when food is cooked many of the nutrients present in the food are destroyed. This means that whenever we eat food that has been cooked we do not get the maximum nutritional value from the food. When we consume foods that have not been cooked on the other hand we obtain the maximum amount of nutrients. The result of this is that people who eat cooked foods all the time have many nutritional deficiencies, since many people who eat cooked junk foods also do not maintain a balanced diet. People who eat raw foods on the other hand have little to no nutritional deficiencies. People who do not have any nutritional deficiencies have a much stronger immune system which guards against disease. People who have nutritional deficiencies have a much weaker immune system and thus they are more susceptible to illnesses such as the flu and to developing fatal illnesses such as heart disease and cancer.

People, who have gone on a raw food diet, have also reported that they have since developed a more attractive skin complexion. This also makes perfect sense scientifically because many foods that are eaten raw contain anti-oxidants which clear the skin and lessen the amount of imperfections your skin develops. Raw foods do not contain any harmful additives and preservatives which means you steer clear of all of these harmful things when on a raw food diet.

Another benefit of raw food is that it is virtually impossible to gain any fat when on a raw food diet. The study by Cambridge also followed people who recently embarked on raw food diets and after one year they measured their body fat percentage and compared it to before they started the raw food diet. Many people found that they managed to lose about 3-6% body fat during this period with 0.2 – 0.3% lean body mass loss. The impressive thing about these findings is that it was all without exercise. People who were in a sample which did incorporate some exercise found that during the course of the year, they managed to lose 15% body fat which is amazing, given the candidates had struggled to lose weight without raw food previously.

Many people would certainly benefit from incorporating some raw food in their diets, especially when looking to avoid many of the illnesses we find nowadays and stay healthy.
