Make The Super Market Your New Best Friend
I don't care if grocery shopping is the thing you hate most in this world, if you expect to get into shape and start eating healthy, you have to learn to love your super market.
I say that very loosely as I really do not enjoy shopping all that much myself. Crying kids, crowded aisles and long check out lines are not exactly my idea of fun.
However, I am smart enough to know that eating out at restaurants and fast food joints every day is not going to help me stay in great shape.
That is why I suck it up every Sunday around 11:00 a.m. and spend an hour of my well deserved weekend at the local grocery store. I don't do it because I really love it, I do it because I know it is important and necessary.
There are a few things I have learned about grocery stores over the years:
- The earlier or later you go, the better. I like to go Sunday before the church rush hits and usually I can get in and out of there fairly quickly.
- Going late at night is OK, but they tend to be out of a lot of things. That is why I tend to go in the morning because everything is freshly stocked and ripe for the pickings.
- First of the month is best for deals. Having worked in a few different grocery stores in my day, I can tell you to definitely keep your eye on ads around the first of every month. You can catch some awesome deals.
Everybody I know and network with that are really healthy and in great physical condition all have one thing in common, they learned to cook for themselves.
There is absolutely no way you will ever get the body you want or shed the necessary pounds to feel fully confident about yourself if you do not learn to say no to fast food and restaurants and start learning to cook healthy.
I cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for my self every single day and eat out at restaurants maybe twice a month. Once you learn to cook healthy and delicious meals at home, you will wonder why you ever ate so much fast food before.
Cooking healthy and shopping smart go hand in hand and you really can not accomplish one with out the other. If you surround yourself with nothing but healthy choices then your diet really has no choice but to improve.
These Are The Five Things You Should Always Be Shopping For:
- Fruits (Apples, Grapes, Strawberries, Watermelon)
- Vegetables (Peppers, Carrots, Peas, Broccoli, Lettuce)
- Lean Proteins (Fish, Turkey, Lamb, Buffalo, Lean Cuts of Beef)
- Whole Wheat And Grain (Cereals, Breads, Pastas, Rice)
- Healthy Fat (Natural Peanut Butter, Hummus, Almonds, Olive Oil)
Start substituting whats is in your fridge and cupboards right now with a bunch of the above mentioned foods and your diet will definitely being taking a step in the right direction.
Simply learning to shop smart, cook for yourself, and snack healthy will put you on the right path towards a new and improved you.
Just remember, get into that grocery store at least once a week no matter how bad it sucks, it will start to pay off before you know it.
